Get to Know GGPoker Speed Racer Bounty Tournaments

GGpoker
GGpoker

Here at PokerNews we're always on the lookout for exciting tournament variants that are around, and we think we found one.

Speed Racer tournaments on GGPoker are fast. But they're slow... Well, they're fast and slow. You start every Speed Racer Bounty tournament with just ten big blinds. However, the first level is 20 minutes long, giving you plenty of time to win some flips, earn some bounties, and build up your stack.

But, you'd better do it quickly, because the levels that follow are just two minutes long!

Ventura Keeps Crushing

Diego Ventura
Diego Ventura

Level 9: 1,200/2,400/300

It's been all about Diego "TheProjector" Ventura on Day 1E thus far as the Peruvian star claimed another victim to soar to over 350k in chips. It was Lev "LevMeAlone" Gottlieb who fell to Ventura.

Ventura had {j-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and check-raised a {j-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} after Gottlieb had bet. The latter called and called a 14,744 bet on the {9-Clubs} turn and all-in shove for 45k on the {3-Clubs} river with {q-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. The call with third pair was unsuccessful against Ventura's top two to turn Gottlieb's second stack into dust as well.

Gottlieb, a 2020 WSOP bracelet winner and one who recently won three GGPoker tournaments in a short time span including two on the same day, bought himself back in for attempt #3 to spin it up.

The Champ Bricks

Damian Salas

Level 8: 1,000/2,000/250

"INeedMoneyy" raised to 4,200 in middle position and Damian Salas three-bet to 12,400 in the cutoff. Shankar Pillai cold-called from the small blind and "INeedMoneyy" called as well. The flop came down {8-Clubs}{9-Spades}{2-Spades} and Salas bet 13,514 after two checks. Only Pillai stuck around with a call.

On the {6-Diamonds} turn, Pillai checked and Salas shoved all in for 63,531. Pillai called it off after some thought,

Damian Salas: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}
Shankar Pillai: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}

The 2020 WSOP Main Event champion had a flush draw to go with his overcards but found neither on the {9-Clubs} river.

Reentry Needed

The following players have all run out of chips on their first bullet. Unlimited reentries are allowed until level 17, after which the total prize pool and payouts will be announced. Currently, the event is still half a million shy of its lofty guarantee.

Updated Counts

The field is up to 119 players, with 111 of them still in contention in level 8 of the day.

Derzhypilskyi Decimated

Always brutal: set over set
Always brutal: set over set

Level 7: 800/1,600/200

Aliaksandr Hirs raised to 3,200 first to act and Andrii Derzhypilskyi called on the button. Hirs bet 3,432 on a seemingly innocuous {6-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop and Derzhypilskyi called.

On the turn, it turned out both players were all over the rainbow flop. Hirs bet 10,232, Derzhypilskyi raised to 26,864, Hirs clicked it back to 43,496, Derzhypilskyi shoved for 108,004 and the Belarusian called.

Aliaksandr Hirs: {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}
Andrii Derzhypilskyi: {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}

Just one out could save Derzhypilskyi from being decimated but the {7-Spades} was burned and turned instead to leave him with scraps.

Ventura on the Move

Level 6: 600/1,200/150

Diego "TheProjector" Ventura raised to 10,570 in middle position and Daniel Smiljkovic defended the big blind. On a {9-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{3-Spades} flop, Smiljkovic checked, Ventura bet 8,132, Smiljkovic check-raised to 18,358, Ventura shoved and Smiljkovic called it off for 37,670 more.

Daniel Smiljkovic: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Diego "TheProjector" Ventura: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

Smiljkovic was drawing slim with the inferior overpair and ended up with the smaller boats during the {9-Spades} {9-Hearts} rundown.

New Entries

More and more big names are showing up to play the final flight of the $10K, including Christopher Puetz, Kristen Bicknell and Brunno Botteon. Leonard "LottoLarry" Maue was the second player to be eliminated, but reentered straight away.
