Donald Rae leads after Day 2

The 2015 Master Classics of Poker €4,250 Main Event saw another 13 players enter the competition before registration closed at the start of Day 2 to bump the overall field to 291 entries. All but one of those late registrants busted before the end of the day, with just Andrew Leathem advancing through to Day 3 with a stack of 201,000 in chips. But, all eyes will be on the United Kingdom's Donald Rae, as he bagged the overnight lead with 682,000.

The Englishman was followed by 2015 World Series of Poker Europe bracelet winner Makarios Avramidis (635,000) and fellow Greek Georgios Zisimopoulos (550,000). [Removed:172] (536,000) and Timothy Adams (507,000) completed the top five.

Day 2 was all about making the money, and the money bubble burst at the start of Level 18 when Zisimopoulos open-shoved the button with jack-three and Juha Helppi called with ace-nine suited from the blinds. A jack and a three appeared on the flop, and that proved the end of the road for Helppi.

Many other notables didn't even make it as far. Ludovic Geilich, Kevin Killeen, Fatiy Aydin, and Bryn Kenney all fell in the first level of the day, along with Tom Hall, Paul Hoefer, Micha Hoedemaker, Matthias de Meulder, and Jason Wheeler.

Antoine Vranken had started as one of the biggest stacks, but he departed in the second level of Wednesday's action. Avramidis then took care of Aviv Meiri and EPT Malta champion Jean Montury shortly after to soar into the lead.

Thomas Muehloecker, Noah Boeken, Eugene Katchalov, Farid Chati, Rodrigo Caprioli, Matas Cimbolas, and Paul Berende had nothing to show for either following their eliminations.

Berende saw his pocket aces cracked by start-of-the-day chip leader Martin Finger, and German wunderkind Ole Schemion sent over the remainder of his stack to Kramer.

Ari Engel's stack melted in four big hands, and a crazy two minutes saw the simultaneous eliminations of [Removed:17], Raoul Refos, and 2011 MCOP champion David Boyaciyan.

Govert Metaal also lost a flip towards the end of Level 17 before the bubble burst.

Notables to make it through to the penultimate day included Przemyslaw Piotrowski (419,000), Joep van den Bijgaart (406,000), Ilan Boujenah (378,000), Pieter de Korver (293,000), Anton Wigg (212,000), Bryan Paris (212,000), Jussi Nevanlinna (208,000), Pascal Vos (201,000), former November Niner Michiel Brummelhuis (195,000), Steven van Zadelhoff (195,000), Tobias Peters (182,000), Steve O'Dwyer (152,000), defending champion Ruben Visser (86,000), and the aforementioned Day 1b leader Finger (38,000).

With 36 players left, all have locked up a min-cash of €5,762 for their efforts. But, all eyes will be set on the unique winner plate and first-place payday of €299,614.

Play will resume on Thursday at 14:00 local time with 90-minute levels. The blinds continue at 3,000/6,000 with a running ante of 1,000, and you can find live coverage in the PokerNews Live Reporting section.

Helppi Bubbles the Main Event

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Juha Helppi
Juha Helppi

Georgios Zisimopoulos open-shoved the button and Juha Helppi called from the small blind for an effective stack of 186,000, putting himself at risk of elimination.

Zisimopoulos: {J-Clubs}{3-Hearts}
Helppi: {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}

The Greek found some magic on the flop {3-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{K-Hearts} and neither the {2-Clubs} turn nor the {9-Spades} river changed anything anymore to let the bubble burst in bizarre fashion. "I know he jams any two, that's why I called. If I win the hand I have a good chance to win the tournament," Helppi said after walking away from the crime scene.

Hansen Leaves with the Head Shaking

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Herman Hansen
Herman Hansen

Herman Hansen opened to 12,500 and Timothy Adams three-bet to 27,500 from one seat over. Hansen clicked to 42,500 and was called by the Canadian to see a flop of {8-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{10-Spades}. Hansen shoved for 100,000 and Adams called!

Hansen: {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}
Adams: {7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

The {9-Clubs} turn and {K-Diamonds} river both bricked and Hansen stumbled away from the table in disbelief after missing out the money by just a few spots.

Rae Cracks the Jacks of Metaal

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Govert Metaal
Govert Metaal

Govert Metaal three-bet shoved for around 100,000 with the {J-Hearts}{J-Spades} and was called by Donald Rae with {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}. The flop {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{3-Hearts} was very bad news for the Dutchman, who only had two outs remaining. Neither the turn nor the river gave any help and Metaal headed to the rail.

Triple Seat Open

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
David Boyaciyan
David Boyaciyan

Within two minutes and on three different tables nearby, three players were sent to the rail.

[Removed:17] limped in from the small blind and then called the shove of Timothy Adams for 65,000 with pocket eights. Adams had {Q-}{J-} and got there.

Donald Rae raised to 10,000 and then tank-called the shove of Raoul Refos for 18 big blinds with {6-Clubs}{6-Spades}. Refos had {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs} but the board ran out {9-Spades}{A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} to give Rae the better hand on a cruel river.

And then David Boyaciyan busted with {A-}{6-} against the {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} of Johan Verhagen. It is unclear when the chips went in, but the board ran out {8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{10-Spades} and the gutshot and one over card didn't come for Boyaciyan.

Berende's Aces Cracked

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Paul Berende
Paul Berende

On the {K-Spades}{10-Clubs}{4-Spades}{2-Diamonds} turn, Paul Berende check-called a bet of 29,000 and checked again the {2-Hearts} on the river. Martin Finger now slid forward a tower of T-10,000 chips to put his opponent all in and Berende called off for around 100,000 chips with the {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}. Finger had out flopped his opponent with the {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} and scored a big knockout.

Avramidis Soars Into Big Lead

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Makarios Avramidis
Makarios Avramidis

Arriving on the turn of a board {7-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{5-Clubs} with a pot of around 56,000, Makarios Avramidis was spotted leading for 50,000. Aviv Meiri was in the think tank and then time was called on him. With half a minute left, Aviv took down his headphones and asked how many seconds he had left. Less than 10 seconds before the end of the countdown, he called and the dealer burned and turned the {2-Spades} river.

Avramidis immediately moved all in from the big blind and Meiri called off for his last 60,000, then nodded when he got shown {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} by the Greek. The dealer obliged him to show {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades} and then Meiri headed to the rail.

Vranken's Nines no Good

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Antoine Vranken
Antoine Vranken

Antoine Vranken raised to 2,500 and Martin Finger called before Hakim Zoufri raised to 5,600. Vranken clicked to 12,200 before Finger got out of the way and then Zoufri squeezed to 25,600. Vranken jammed for less than double of that and got snap-called.

Zoufri: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Vranken: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}

The board came {A-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{Q-Spades} and that was it for the Dutchman.
