Juha Helppi

Juha Helppi and Ioannis Angelou Konstas were heads-up on the {3-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{9-Spades} flop and Helppi had checked to Konstas. The Greek player decided to go for a bet of 3,600 and Helppi called.

Juha Helppi raised to 2,000 from the cutoff and Ioannis Angelou Konstas called from the small blind. The player in the big blind called as well.

The flop fell {4-Spades}{6-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and it checked to Helppi. He continued with a bet of 4,000 and Konstas was the only caller.

They both checked on the {4-Hearts} turn to see the {7-Spades} river complete the board. Konstas lead out with a bet of 4,800 and that won him the pot as Helppi threw his cards in the muck.

Slow Phase

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante

The entries have stopped coming in at the clock has been stuck at 75 players for quite a while now. Only 34 players are left at this point which gives an average stack of a little over 66,000. With blinds still being 400/800 and a big blind ante of 800 there is more than enough room to take it slow.

Roope Tarmi Double After Lucky Turn

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante
Roope Tarmi
Roope Tarmi

Thierry van den Berg raised from middle position to 2,200 and Roope Tarmi was up next. He decided to three-bet to 6,600 and Van den Berg moved all in for effectively 30,600. Tarmi called and they opened up.

Roope Tarmi: {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}
Thierry van den Berg: {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}

The board ran out {9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} and Tarmi managed to hit an ace on the turn to stay alive and double through Van den Berg.

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante
Raoul Refos
Raoul Refos

The board read {4-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{8-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} and Raoul Refos had bet all-in for his last 20,000, about the same size as the pot.

Ad Schaap was talking to Refos, but the latter did not respond to the questions.

Schaap ended up calling and he saw he made the right decision when Refos opened up {J-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. Schaap showed {A-Spades}{9-Clubs} for the winning hand.

Sebastiaan de Jonge Leads 31 Players After Day 1A

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante
Sebastiaan de Jonge
Sebastiaan de Jonge

Day 1A of the €4,300 Main Event at the Master Classics of Poker in Holland Casino Amsterdam is in the books. For the first time in the 27 years of existence, they played the tournament with a big blind ante. The first of two starting flights attracted a total of 75 entries. Only 31 players managed to bag chips at the end of the day. The next starting flight, Day 1B, will be on Tuesday, November 27. The field will combine on Wednesday, November 28, and the winner will be crowned on Day 4 on Friday, November 30.

Sebastiaan de Jonge stands at the top of the leaderboard after nine 60-minute levels. De Jonge managed to end up with 176,400 in his bag after they all started with 30,000. He’s closely followed by Joris Ruijs (159,300) and Firoz Mangroe (158,700). Other notable players that managed to find a bag are Max Lehmanski (152,500), Tobias Peters (99,900), defending champion Claas Segebrecht (94,500) Ioannis Angelou Konstas (82,500), Juha Helppi (48,900), 2012 MCOP Main Event winner Ole Schemion (28,500) and Steven van Zadelhoff (28,000).

Per Munksgaard also managed to find a bag at the end of the day. Munksgaard probably saw one of the sickest flops in his life when he was playing queen-jack of clubs. The flop came down ace-king-ten, all clubs, as he flopped a royal flush. He managed to get all the chips of Bill Asafiati who was playing ace-ten. Munksgaard ended the day with 78,600, which is just above the average stack of 72,581.

Dutch TV host Alberto Stegeman is also still in the running. Stegeman ended the day with 115,200 which earns him the fifth place on the leaderboard. He managed to finish in 18th place in last year’s Master Classics of Poker Main Event. He then won €12,189 and he is looking to improve on that score with a bigger cash this year.

Players that were less fortunate today were Timur Margolin, Daniyar Aubakirov, Jan Bendik, and Rob Hollink. Bart Spijkers and Rens Feenstra both fired two bullets, as one reentry is allowed per flight, but they both didn’t bag any chips. Another player that didn’t find a bag is Uri Reichenstein, despite his stellar start in the tournament. Reichenstein managed to double up after only eight minutes. He played a huge 600 big blind pot against Andrea Ricci where Ricci was playing pocket aces, holding an overpair to the board, but Reichenstein had the nut flush. Ricci went for the reentry and managed to bag 104,100. Reichenstein can still try his luck on Day 1B of the tournament, or he can enter the tournament before the start of Day 2.

Day 1B of the tournament will take place on Tuesday, November 27, at 2 p.m. local time and the field will combine on Day 2 on Wednesday, November 28. They will play down to a final table on Thursday, November 29, and the winner of the €4,300 Master Classics of Poker Main Event will be crowned on Friday, November 30.

On Saturday, the €25,500 Super High Roller starts. PokerNews will be on the ground to cover that event from start to finish, so keep your eyes out for updates from that event this weekend.
