Gimbel's Day Is Done While Julius' Is Just Heating Up

The last time we checked, 2010 PCA champ Harrison Gimbel was short, so we thought we'd see how he was doing here in Level 5. Unfortunately, we discovered Gimbel is no longer with us.

According to Kyle Julius, who finished as runner-up in this very event last year, Gimbel busted when he held {a-}{10-}. The flop consisted of three spades, the turn was a {10-}, and Otto Lemke held {A-Spades}{8-}. The two got it all in, and Lemke hit a spade on the river. That was all she wrote for Gimbel.

Meanwhile, we managed to catch Julius in a hand. In it, he opened for 625 and he received a call from Lemke in the cutoff. Ramin Hajiyev then three-bet to 1,800 from the button, Julius four-bet to 4,600, and Lemke got out of the way. Hajiyev gave it some serious consideration, but ultimately laid down his hand. Julius then showed {4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}.

Weisner Gets Value From Turned Straight

Cards shot to the muck around the table until it hit Melanie Weisner on the button. She raised to 700 and received a call from Dylan Hortin in the big blind.

The two took a flop of {8-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{J-Spades} and the action went check-check. Fourth street brought the {10-Hearts} and Hortin shot out 1,000 only to have Weisner make it 2,700 to go. Hortin called and the river was the {2-Clubs}.

Hortin tapped the table and Weisner moved out a bet totaling 6,650. Hortin took a bit before finally dropping in a call. Weisner rolled over {9-Hearts}{7-Clubs} for a turned straight and Hortin mucked. Weisner has about 58,000 in chips now.

Defending PCA Main Event Champion John Dibella Eliminated

John Dibella - Eliminated
John Dibella - Eliminated

On the last hand of Level 4, 2012 PCA Main Event Champion John Dibella was eliminated.

Fabian Quoss filled us is on the details. After an early position raise, Dibella called from the small blind. Quoss called from the big blind and the flop came down {J-}{5-}{2-} with two hearts. Dibella checked to Quoss who bet 1,000, resulting in a fold from the preflop raiser.

Dibella raised to 3,000, only to see Quoss re-raise for more than Dibella's remaining stack. After some time in the tank, Dibella called all in with {Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and looked to get there against Quoss' {5-Spades}{2-Spades}.

However, no help came for Dibella, ending his Main Event title defense.

Lamb Moving In The Right Direction

We recently found 2011 World Series of Poker Player of the Year Ben Lamb sitting on a smaller stack here at the 2013 PCA. When we came upon the table, Lamb made it 700 to go from middle position and received a call from both of the blinds.

The dealer tapped the table and spread out {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{9-Hearts}. Two checks to Lamb prompted a continuation bet of 1,000. The small blind called while the big blind got out of the way.

Both players checked the {2-Hearts} on fourth to see the {Q-Clubs} strike the table on fifth. Lamb's opponent bet 1,200 but Lamb would not be pushed around so easily. He flicked out a raise to 3,500 and his opponent let go.

By raking in this pot Lamb is moving in the right direction. He's currently sitting on about 19,000.

Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

Jason Mercier opened to 600 from under the gun, Ryan Higgins called in the small blind, and Yoni Uzan three-bet to 1,700 from the big blind. Mercier four-bet to 3,025, Higgins folded, and Uzan moved all in for 11,750. Mercier snap-called.

Mercier: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Uzan: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}

The flop fell {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{a-Spades}, giving Uzan a full house and a stranglehold on the hand. The Israeli held as the turn and river came {6-Spades}, {9-Hearts} respectively, and he doubled.

Mercier is left with just over 9,000 chips.

Brenes Flops Top Two

Dario Minieri raised to 700 from the cutoff. Humberto Brenes called from the small blind and Anthony Gregg stuck around from the big blind.

The flop was {2-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{K-Hearts}. All three players checked to the turn which was the {7-Diamonds}. Brenes and Gregg checked once more while Minieri fired out 1,100. Brenes flat called and Gregg got out of the way.

The river was the {5-Spades} and Brenes checked a third time. A 2,100 bet from Minieri prompted a call from Brenes. Minieri showed {K-Clubs}{9-Spades} for top pair but was ultimately behind Brenes' top two with {K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}.
