Schemion Gets Pipped

Level 3 : 100/300, 300 ante

Ole Schemion raised it up from middle position and Jose Montes three-bet to 2,200 directly on his left. The action folded back to Schemion who called to see a flop of {k-Hearts}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs}. Schemion check-called a bet of 2,000 from Montes and the {7-Spades} showed up on the turn.

Schemion checked again and Montes tossed in another bet of 4,600. Schemion wasn't ready to give up on his hand yet as he made the call. The {2-Diamonds} on the river paired the board and both players knuckled the table in quick succession. Schemion flipped over {10-Spades}{10-Hearts} but was pipped by Montes' {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}.

Yoon Flopped the Set

Level 3 : 100/300, 300 ante

The board read {10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} with around 24,000 in the middle already.

Gonzalo Robles had checked in the big blind and Brian Yoon decided to bet 8,500 from the early position. Another player that was involved in the hand quickly folded but Robles needed some more time. After a while, Robles put in a chip for the call and mucked when Yoon showed he held {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} for the flopped set of nines.

Garcia and Emmett Among Early Casualties

Level 3 : 100/300, 300 ante
Sergio Garcia
Sergio Garcia

In the previous level, Randall Emmett joked in table chat who he considered as a professional player and fish. The American producer then claimed he had already engraved his name into the trophy and that the other players at the table could come outside and take a picture with it. One of them may well do that in a few days from now, but Emmett has been among the early casualties in the second level of the day.

Danny Tang and famous golfer Sergio Garcia also joined Emmett on the rail. Garcia ran into a set of David Yan twice in quick succession, first with aces versus queens on a queen-high flop and then with {K-}{Q-} versus pocket tens when Yan immediately flopped another ten.

First Break of the Day

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

The players are in the midst of their first 20-minute break of the day with a lot of buzz in the big tournament room still, and the screens show a total of 918 entries. So far, only a handful of participants have run out of chips and Day 1 will feature another six levels.

Racener Goes Deep Into the Tank

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

In the last hand before the break, there was a raise to 600 from under the gun. Atanas Pavlov called from middle position along with the button. John Racener three-bet to 3,200 in the small blind and was called by all three players.

The flop came {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and the action checked around to the {2-Hearts} on the turn. Racener led out for 7,000 and Pavlov was the only player to call. The river brought the {5-Hearts} and Racener checked this time. Pavlov fired in a bet of 20,000 which sent Racener to the tank for nearly four minutes. He eventually mucked his cards and Pavlov raked in the pot.

Joey Ingram, Daniel Dvoress, and Nick Schulman are also seated at the table.

Pierce Loses to Kanit and Sow

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante
Paul Pierce
Paul Pierce

In the first hand, the board read {8-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{q-Spades}{10-Clubs} with around 14,000 in the middle. Mustapha Kanit bet 7,000 from under the gun and Paul Pierce was considering his options from Kanit's direct left. After a while, Pierce reluctantly made the call but mucked as soon as Kanit tabled {9-Spades}{8-Spades} for the rivered straight.

The hand right after, Pierce raised to 1,000 from under the gun and Kalidou Sow three-bet to 2,200 from the button. The flop came {7-Spades}{5-Clubs}{6-Hearts}, Pierce check-called the 2,000 bet of Sow. The turn was the {9-Hearts}, now Pierce check-folded to the 3,100 continuation-bet of Sow.

"I need to double up soon!" Pierce exclaimed while Kanit was filming an Instagram story claiming he was the real MVP and tagging Pierce in it. Pierce just laughed it off.

Coleman Rips, Pecheux Tanks

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

Erwann Pecheux bet 5,000 into 17,000 from the cutoff on a completed board of {10-Spades}{3-Spades}{j-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{k-Spades} and Maxx Coleman shoved all in for about 40,000 effective. Pecheux was already in the tank when we arrived and he thought for at least five more minutes while the rest of the players at the table joked around.

Finally, Fatima Moreira de Melo asked with a smile if they should shut up. Pecheux said he didn't need much more time and then finally folded, instructing Coleman not to show. Coleman grinned and slid his cards in face down.

"You know, the bare-ace bluff is only supposed to work in PLO," Dustin Dirksen said to the high-stakes PLO reg.
