Three-handed on a flop of QJ9, Michael Miravi bet 1,300 from middle position and Rob Gardner, a laptop open in front of him, called on the button. Louis Bailey then raised to 4,100 under the gun and Miravi called, while Gardner folded and went back to work on his computer.

The turn was the 4 and Bailey bet 5,000. Miravi again called to see the 3 river, where Bailey bet another 7,000. Miravi folded this time, and Bailey took the pot.

Douglas Calls Down Sommers With a Boat

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

Lee Sommers raised to 600 in middle position and Kenneth Douglas called in the hijack. Matthew Riebel then three-bet to 3,000 in the cutoff and both opponents called.

The flop came J5Q and Douglas bet 4,000. Riebel folded, but Sommers called to see the 10 turn.

Both players checked to the Q river, where Sommers bet 5,200. Douglas quickly called and turned over 55 for a full house, and Sommers mucked.

Set-Over-Set Madness on the First Hand

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
Sean Byers
Sean Byers

On the first hand of the day, Sean Byars three-bet to 2,100 in the big blind and was called by a middle-position opponent and Reda Aziz in the hijack.

The flop came A64 and Byars continued for 3,500. Only Aziz called to see the Q turn.

Byars then bet 10,000 and Aziz moved all in. Byars snap-called and turned over AA for top set, while Aziz had 44 for a smaller set. The river was the 6 and Byars earned an immediate double up, leaving Aziz with just 200.

Aziz was all in the next hand and up against three opponents. Byars led out for 600 from the small blind on a flop of K93, and only Lee Sommers called in the big blind.

Byars bet another 2,300 on the J turn, and Sommers again called. The river was the 2 and Byars checked to Sommers, who bet 3,000. Byars folded and Sommers showed A4 for the nut flush. Aziz tossed his cards into the muck as he made his exit as the first casualty of the day.

Blinds projected to be 3,000/6,000 on Day 2

Players on Day 1c begin with a 40,000 starting stack, including 10,000 additional chips for a $60 staff add-on. The schedule calls for 40-minute levels, with a break after every three levels and a 45-minute dinner break at the end of Level 9.

Late registration remains open through the end of Level 12, with unlimited reentries available. One of the 16 who survived the first two flights can also enter today in an attempt to bag up more chips; if they also qualify out of today’s flight, their smallest stack will be taken out of play and they’ll receive a min-cash.

The day will conclude once 12.5 percent of the field is remaining. All qualifiers will then combine on Day 2 at 12:15 p.m. tomorrow already in the money and prepared to play down to a champion.

Stay tuned throughout the day as PokerNews follows all the action and provides live updates.
