Rampage Leads the Invitational Field Ahead of Potentially Record-Breaking Day 2

Rampage
Rampage

There's been 96 players and 34 re-entries so far in this year's $200,000 Triton Invitational, and with late reg open until the start of Day 2 at 12pm today we just need 3 more to make Montenegro's Invitational the biggest in Triton history.

Ethan 'Rampage' Yau leads the way after bagging a huge 1m+ chip stack, with Wai Kin Yong the only other player to reach the seven-figure milestone ahead of Day 2.

Today, the field combines as pros and invitees will duke it out, hoping to make the final table in one of Triton's biggest events of all time.

We'll confirm payouts from this event, as and when we have them.

$200k Invititational Chip Counts - Start Day 2

Here's the top 10 leading the pack in the $200K Triton Invitational, with 88 players still standing at Level 11:

Igor Yaroshevskyy, Jules Dickerson and Gilles Morihain are virtually inseparable in 3rd, 4th and 5th — just 8,000 chips between them and all hovering around the 970k mark.

Rob Yong is never one to do things quietly, and after cracking aces with kings early on Day 1 he sits comfortably in 6th with 952,000.

Chan Wai Leong, Rafael Mota and Elias Talvitie are all sitting pretty above 800k, while Benjamin Heath rounds out the top 10 on a comfortable 100 BBs.

The first week of Triton SHRS Montenegro has absolutely flown by with some amazing stories emerging, and today should be no different as one of the biggest events of the entire Triton calendar continues with Day 2 of the $200,000 Triton Invitational.

It’s moving day in the Invitational. The money bubble is edging closer, the genuine title contenders will begin to separate themselves from the pack, and the pressure inside the Maestral Resort & Casino is about to rise another level.

The Invitational isn’t the only attraction on today’s schedule either. At 5 p.m., cards go in the air for the $50,000 NLH 7-Handed, a two-day event certain to draw many of the game’s biggest stars. For some, it could prove the perfect warm-up before Thursday’s eagerly anticipated $100,000 NLH Main Event.

Triton Montenegro Schedule - Wednesday, May 20

  • Event #8: $200,000 Triton Invitational - Day 2 - 12:00

Montenegro Gears Up For the $200K Triton Invitational

Aleksa Pavicevic
Aleksa Pavicevic

One of the most popular and certainly the most unique event on the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Montenegro festival bursts into action from 12:00 p.m. local time. We are, of course, talking about the $200,000 Triton Invitational.

A field of 96 entrants, made up of 48 poker professionals and 48 invitees, will go to battle over the next couple of days. Day 1 sees the signature separate fields format, where the seasoned pros lock horns and butt heads in one room, and the invited players face off in another.

All 96 players will compete across ten 50-minute levels before the pros and invitees combine on Day 2.

The prize pool topped $26,600,000 in this event last year, after 37 re-entries were processed in addition to the 96 entrants. Aleksa Pavicevic was the last player standing. They defeated Seth Davies heads-up to capture the colossal $6,180,000 top prize.

Pavicevic is back in Montenegro to attempt a title defense. Doing so is a tall order given the field's sheer quality, but stranger things have happened in the poker world.

Stay tuned to PokerNews for updates from the $200,000 Triton Invitational and from all other events making up the Montenegro schedule.

Mike Watson Takes Down the $30K NLH Turbo For Sixth Triton Title

Mike Watson
Mike Watson

Canada's Mike Watson has competed on the biggest stage for the past 20 years, and he is showing no signs of slowing down. On May 18, Watson captured his sixth Triton title in three years when he came out on top in the $30,000 No-Limit Hold'em Turbo event and walked away with $659,000.

Watson's victory ties him with Punnat Punsri and Matthias Eibinger in terms of Triton wins. The $659,000 he collected from this event pushed his Triton earnings toward $19.5 million. Watson may be a veteran of the high roller scene, but he is still a formidable opponent for anyone who crosses his path.

"Any time you get to lift a Triton trophy, it's definitely meaningful," Watson said during his post-victory interview. "I'm now back in a tie for second in the most Triton trophies, so it's pretty cool."

6Thomas BoivinBelgium$151,000
7Patrik AntoniusFinland$118,000
8Cong PhamUnited States$91,000
9Maher NouiraTunisia$66,000

Watson navigated to the final table as the second-largest stack, although he only had 28 big blinds in his arsenal due to the turbo structure of this exciting event. Six of the final nine had fewer than 14 big blinds at their disposal, so, as you would expect, the action was fast and furious.

Tunisia's Maher Nouira was the first finalist to bow out after a clash with Anatoly Zlotnikov didn't go to play. Nouira got his chips in as a substantial favorite, but Zlotnikov's suited king-queen came from behind to best the busted player's ace-queen.

Cong Pham
Cong Pham

Cong Pham suffered a similar fate against Mehdi Chaoui. Pham's king-ten was ahead of his opponent's jack-ten but only until a jack reared its face on the turn.

Seventh place went to Patrik Antonius, who continued the trend of getting outdrawn to bust. Antonius three-bet all-in for his last seven big blinds holding ace-queen, and Zlotnikov called with king-jack. A king on the flop sent Antonius to the rail.

Belgium's Thomas Boivin was down to only a handful of big blinds when he committed his short-stack with queen-deuce of spades after the aggressive Chaoui had opened the betting. Chaoui called with king-five and for the first time at the final table, the best hand held at showdown in an all-in confrontation.

Samuel Muller
Samuel Muller

The dangerous Samuel Muller became a spectator when he ripped in eight big blinds with king-queen. Ordinarily, this would be enough to rake in the blinds and antes. However, on this occasion, Chaoui looked down at pocket kings and made one of the easiest calls of his illustrious career. The board ran out void of drama, and the final table was down to four players.

Those four became three when Tom Fuchs clashed with Watson, who had just won a huge flip with pocket fives against Zlotnikov's ace-eight of spades. Fuchs was all-in against Watson with the king-queen of diamonds, but in bad shape against Watson's queens. Those ladies held, and Fuchs bowed out in fourth.

Chaoui found kings again in another elimination hand, this time improving to an unnecessary flush to beat Zlotnikov's queen-ten. That hand gave Chaoui a 46 to 38 big blind advantage over Watson going into heads-up.

Heads-up battle
Heads-up battle

Watson won a substantial pot that flipped the contest on its head. Chaoui slow-played his trip sixes on the flop, which allowed Watson to pick up an open-ended straight draw on the turn. Watson improved to a straight on the river, and Chaoui couldn't get away from his trips.

Chaoui managed to double through Watson, but the Canadian won the all-important final hand, his pocket fives holding against jack-eight, nd a sixth Triton title was Watson's.

Mike Watson's Triton Victories

Mike Watson

Watson won his first Triton event in Vietnam in March 2023, taking down a $50,000 Short Deck event for $695,000. Two months later, he won a $30,000 Pot-Limit Omaha event in Cyprus for another $347,000 before completing his hat trick in Jeju in March 2024 with another Short Deck victory.

The popular pro became a four-time winner in May 2024 in Montenegro when he raked in the $1,023,000 top prize, the $30,000 NLH 8-Handed event offered. Watson's fifth outright victory came in Jeju in September 2025. Here, Watson won the $125,000 NLH 7-Handed event for a career-best $2,130,812.

Triton title number six happened here in Montenegro, adding another $659,000 to his already impressive earnings tally.

Christopher Nguyen Triumphs in the $50,000 NLH 8-Handed Event ($1,535,000)

Christopher Nguyen
Christopher Nguyen

It's quite ridiculous to think that Christopher Nguyen's first live tournament cash came in December 2022 because the 26-year-old now has more than $10 million in live earnings, and five $1 million+ prizes on his Hendon Mob profile. The fifth of those seven-figure scores, $1,535,000, came on May 18 when he took down the $50,000 NLH 8-Handed event at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Montenegro festival.

The talented German's first million-dollar score came in December 2024 when he finished fifth in the $25,000 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Paradise Main Event for $2,100,000. Six months later, Nguyen won the €100,000 EPT Monte-Carlo Super High Roller for €2,022,000.

He then became a WSOP bracelet winner courtesy of triumphing in the €20,000 Super High Roller 8-Max (€1,100,000) at the 2026 WSOP Europe festival before finishing third in the €250,000 EPT Monte Carlo Super High Roller for €1,443,100 earlier this month.

Speaking to Triton commentator, Henry Kilbane, shortly after securing his latest massive core, Nguyen said, "I'm very happy. It was one of the toughest fields. All Tritons are very tough, so I'm very happy with it."

Superstars Compete For Slice of $6,600,000 Prize Pool

Nguyen's $50,000 buy-in was one of 132 entries, which created a $6,600,000 prize pool. David D'Alessandro was the unfortunate bubble boy; his departure in 24th place locked in a min-cash for the 23 surviving players.

Such luminaries as Ramin Hajiyev, Alexandre Reard, Nick Petrangelo, Daniel Dvoress, and D'Alessandro's executioner, Wai Kiat Lee, all cashed and saw a return on their hefty investments.

8Jason KoonUnited States$192,000
9Joao SimaoBrazil$153,000

Joao Simao doubled through Thomas Muehloecker early into the final table action, but then moved all-in with pocket jacks and ran into Nguyen's superior queens to end any hopes of a comeback for the ages.

Patrick Antonius

Nguyen then sent a short-stacked Jason Koon to the rail in eighth before the German completed a hat trick of eliminations by sending Patrik Antonius to the cashier's desk to collect seventh-place money.

Simao's fellow Brazilian, Alisson Piekazewicz, was the next star to be relieved of their stack. Piekazewicz was left with less than a solitary big blind after their pocket sevens lost to Daniel Rezaei's pocket tens, and he crashed out a couple of hands later in a clash with Kristen Foxen.

Foxen added Muehloecker's chips to her stack shortly after a scheduled dinner break. Muehloecker's fifth-place finish came with a cool $456,000.

Nguyen resumed his role of executioner to send Daniil Kiselev home in fourth. Nguyen turned two pair with his ace-six, with Kiselev backing into an inferior two pair with his king-queen. Kiselev couldn't find a fold on the river and crashed out.

Daniel Rezaei
Daniel Rezaei

That hand gave Nguyen a massive chip advantage, his 75 big blinds eclipsing the 20 of Foxen and 11 of Rezaei. The rich became richer when Rezaei three-bet over a Nguyen open before calling off his stack when Nguyen jammed all-in. Nguyen showed pocket sevens, which were racing against king-ten of clubs. A jack-high board kept Nguyen's hand the best, and the $50,000 NLH 8-Handed event progressed to heads-up.

Foxen trailed Nguyen by more than three-to-one in chips, and it only took four hands of one-on-one action for Nguyen to help himself to Foxen's 15 big blinds. The final hand saw Nguyen move all-in with nine-seven, Foxen call with king-nine of diamonds, and the eight-nine-six-six-five board improve Nguyen to a straight.
