Day 3 Completed

Congratulations to Charles "Woody" Moore, WSOP-C Indiana Champion ($99,878)!

Champion Charles "Woody" Moore
Champion Charles "Woody" Moore

What a day it was. At the beginning of the day, only nine hopefuls remained from the starting field of 289 that began a couple of days ago here in this World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event at Horseshoe Southern Indiana.

When it came down to heads-up play, the two players that final tabled the first Circuit event this season in Council Bluffs, Iowa were left to do battle for the title. Kevin Calenzo and Charles "Woody" Moore began heads-up play after John Holder went out in third with Moore having the chip lead. Calenzo battled and battled, but could never actually take the chip lead from Moore, who used his experience on the felt to grind down Calenzo.

The final hand was a classic race situation with two jacks against ace-king. Moore held the jacks and he was able to out run his younger counterpart to claim the gold championship ring, the $99,878 first-place prize and the guaranteed seat in the National Championship next Spring.

Also of note is that Kevin Manley performed better than everyone else here in Indiana in order to earn the most points. He will also receive an entry into the National Championship held in Las Vegas at the end of the season.

That wraps up our coverage from here in Indiana for this stop along the newly revamped WSOP Circuit. We'll be taking a tiny break for a few days and then it's off to Hammond for the next stop on the Circuit. Don't forget that event has a $1,500 Main Event and a $10,000 Regional Championship!

From everyone here at PokerNews, thanks for following along and we hope to be covering you at the next final table!

Kevin Calenzo Eliminated in 2nd Place ($61,725)

Back and Forth - 12: 10 AM

Action has been slow between our final two players. They've been sparring back and forth with the chip stacks changing very little. In a recent hand, Charles "Woody" Moore limped on the button and Kevin Calenzo raised 200,000 more from the big blind. Moore responded by reraising an additional 400,000, which drove Calenzo out of the hand.

Same Old Story - 12:20 AM

Charles "Woody" Moore once again limped on the button and Kevin Calenzo raised to 280,000. Moore called as the flop came down {10-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}. Calenzo led out for 260,000 and Moore mucked.

Kevin Calenzo Eliminated in 2nd Place ($61,725) - 12:25 AM

Per usual, Charles "Woody" Moore limped on the button and Kevin Calenzo raised to 285,000. Moore reraised to 685,000 and Calenzo announced, "All in."

"Call," Moore snapped and turned over {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}. Calenzo turned over {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts} and it was off to the races. Both players realized the enormity of the hand. If Calenzo won he would take the chip lead for the first time. If Moore won it was all over.

The flop came down {7-Clubs}{2-Spades}{10-Clubs}, keeping Moore in the lead. The {10-Hearts} on the turn changed nothing and all Moore needed to do was avoid an ace or king on the river. The dealer burned and put out the {Q-Clubs}. Calenzo became our second place finisher, earning 75 circuit points in the process (bringing his total to 115 and thrusting him toward the top of the National Leaderboard).

Holder Doubles Through Moore - 10:19 PM

Charles "Woody" Moore was on the button and raised to 130,000. John Holder then moved all in from the small blind for 585,000 and Moore made the call with {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. Holder, who held {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}, was in good shape to double. The {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop changed nothing and neither did the {4-Spades} on the turn. Moore needed to catch and ace on the river to eliminate Holder, but couldn't do so as the {4-Hearts} appeared.

John Holder Eliminated in 3rd Place ($44,787) - 10:29 PM

It took awhile but we have finally lost another player. In this particular hand, Charles "Woody" Moore limped from the small blind and John Holder raised to 200,000. Moore moved all in and Holder made the call.

Moore: {2-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}
Holder: {K-Spades}{10-Spades}

The board ran out {8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} and Moore took down the pot, along with a 3-1 chip lead into heads-up play. Meanwhile, Holder became out 3rd place finisher.

Heads-Up Play and Implications - 10:45 PM

Kevin Calenzo and Charles "Woody" Moore are no stranger to one another. Both were final tablists at the last WSOP-C stop in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In that event, Calenzo finished ninth ($8,103) while Moore took fifth ($21,795). At that circuit stop, both also managed to rack up some National Leaderboard points.

Calenzo was awarded 30 points for his performance in the Main Event while Moore scored 50 points plus 7.5 in other events. Both players have not only improved on their past Main Event final table appearances, they're also going to add to their National Leaderboard point total. In this case, the winner will automatically be qualified for the National Championship to be held in May at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas; meanwhile, the runner-up will add 75 points to his total and position himself among the top of the leaderboard. No matter how it turns out, both men will be in great position to earn a shot at playing for $1 million and a WSOP bracelet.

Moore Raises Calenzo Off - 10:53 PM

From the button, Kevin Calenzo raised to 140,000. Charles "Woody" Moore called from the big blind.

The flop came down {6-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Hearts} and both players checked to see the {J-Clubs} fall on the turn. Moore checked and Calenzo fired 175,000. Moore check-raised to 525,000 instantly and Calenzo folded. Moore showed just the {4-Clubs} and pulled ahead to four million in chips to Calenzo's 1.8 million.

Calenzo Pulls One Back - 10:59 PM

Kevin Calenzo raised from the button to 140,000 and Charles "Woody" Moore called from the big blind. The flop came down {6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and Moore check-called a bet of 125,000 from Calenzo.

The turn brought the {7-Spades} and Moore fired 225,000. Calenzo made the call.

The river card was the {Q-Clubs} and Moore checked. Calenzo checked behind.

Moore tabled the {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}, but lost to Calenzo's {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for a pair of sevens. With that pot Calenzo pulled back to 2.2 million to Moore's 3.58 million.

Another Check-Raise for Moore - 11:05 PM

After Kevin Calenzo raised to 140,000 from the button preflop, Charles "Woody" Moore made the call and the flop came down {10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}. Moore checked and Calenzo fired 175,000. Moore raised to 430,000 and won the pot.

No Check-Raise This Time from Moore - 11:15 PM

Kevin Calenzo put in his standard raise at this level from the button to 140,000. Charles "Woody" Moore made the call and the flop came down {K-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. Moore checked and Calenzo fired 130,000. Moore folded and didn't attempt to check-raise Calenzo this time around.

Moore Wins with Turn Bet - 11:18 PM

Kevin Calenzo raised again from the button to 140,000 and Charles "Woody" Moore called. The flop came down {J-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{6-Spades} and both players quickly checked.

The {2-Spades} was added to the board on the turn and Moore opted to lead out. He fired 300,000 and Calenzo hesitated briefly before tossing his hand into the muck.

"You Didn't Have a Flush Draw?" - 11:25 PM

Kevin Calenzo was on the button and raised an additional 80,000 and Charles "Woody" Moore made the call. The flop came down {A-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and Moore checked to Calenzo who bet 155,000. Moore announced a raise and made it 555,000 to go. Calenzo mucked and Moore showed {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}. "You didn't have a flush draw?" Moore asked, clearly hoping his opponent did and was willing to chase.

John Holder raised to 125,000 from the button and Charles "Woody" Moore called from the big blind. The flop came down {A-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and both players checked to see the {7-Clubs} on the turn. Moore checked and Holder fired 125,000. Moore folded and Holder won the pot.

Another Queen Shown from Holder's Hand - 9:30 PM

For some reason, whenever John Holder folds and has a queen in his hand, he shows it. It's happened numerous times since coming back from dinner and this is another one of those instances.

After completing from the small blind, Holder called Kevin Calenzo's raised to 130,000. Calenzo was in the big blind. The flop came down {K-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs} and both players checked.

The turn brought the {A-Spades} and Holder checked. Calenzo fired 135,000 and that got a fold from Holder. Upon folding, Holder showed the {Q-Diamonds} from his hand.

Moore Takes Family Pot with a Pair of Aces - 9:37 PM

Charles "Woody" Moore limped from the button, John Holder completed from the small blind and Kevin Calenzo checked in the big blind. All three players saw the flop come down {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{8-Spades} and action checked to Moore, who had position on his two opponents. He fired 125,000 and only Holder came along to the turn.

The turn card was the {K-Hearts} and both players checked to see the {9-Spades} fall on the turn. Both players checked again and Moore's {A-Spades}{2-Hearts} was the winning hand.

Another Three-Way Flop, This Time 100k Each - 9:43

From the button, John Holder raised to 100,000, the minimum amount he could raise to. Kevin Calenzo called from the small blind and Charles "Woody" Moore called from the big blind.

The flop came down {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{5-Hearts} with 315,000 in the middle already. All three players opted not to take a stab at it and checked to see the {9-Hearts} fall on the turn. After his two opponents checked fourth street, Holder fired a bet of 125,000. That was good enough to win the pot, as both his opponents mucked and he won the pot.
