Event 14 - $2,500 Six-handed Limit Hold'em

Day 2 Completed

Day 2 Ends; Who Will Stop Kid Poker?

Daniel Negreanu - chasing his 5th bracelet tomorrow
Daniel Negreanu - chasing his 5th bracelet tomorrow
That brings an end to a long day in which our field of 98 hopefuls were reduced to our final 11. It was a roller coaster ride today through times of hyper-aggression once the money bubble burst, to the tight play late in the evening once the players caught a sniff of a final table berth. One man who took superb advantage of this was PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu, who pounded relentlessly on his opponents and personally eliminated many of them to accumulate a massive chip lead. With thoughts of last year's Limit Holdem bracelet win in his mind, Negreanu will be focused and very hard to stop.

However, it was Tommi Horkko who made a surge late in the day to claim the unofficial overnight chip lead. The likes of Shawn Buchanan, Barry Shulman and the elusive Russian Nikolay Losev will also be lurking in the wings.

Play will recommence at 1pm tomorrow local time as we play down until a champion is crowned! We look forward to your company then!

Franklin Kline Jr Eliminated in 12th Place ($12,197)

Franklin Kline Jr - 12th Place
Franklin Kline Jr - 12th Place
Franklin Kline Jr committed his last chips on a flop of {4-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and found two very interested customers in Brock Parker and Robert Como, who continued the aggression in the side pot.

The turn was the {6-Hearts} and the river the {K-Clubs} and at showdown, Kline found out that his {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} had been bettered by his opponents who both tabled an identical {A-?}{9-?} to chop up the pot.

Kline departs on the tick of 3am in 12th place, collecting $12,197 for a fine tournament.

Kings vs. Aces

Buchanan hit the river with his kings
Buchanan hit the river with his kings
Shawn Buchanan raised from under the gun and then Nikolay Losev reraised from the cutoff seat. Action folded back around to Buchanan and he made the call. The first three cards were spread {Q-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {5-Hearts}. Buchanan check-called a bet from Losev.

The {10-Spades} fell on the turn and Buchanan checked again. This time, his action was not to check-call, but instead to check-raise. Losev made the call.

The river was the {K-Clubs} and Buchanan fired out with a bet. Losev made the call. Buchanan showed {K-Diamonds} {K-Spades} for a full house on the river.

Greg "FBT" Mueller let out a cheer for Buchanan, while Losev looked disgusted at the board on the table. Daniel Negreanu turned towards Mueller and said, "I'll bet you anything [Losev] had two kings beats." Just as Negreanu said that, Losev turned over his losing hand, {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds}. Indeed, he did have Buchanan crushed until the river, but the kings won this battle.

Losev Loses on the Bluff

Tommi Horkko bet the board of {7-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {5-Spades} {2-Clubs} and Nikolay Losev took his time with his decision. After some time, Losev put in a raise. Horkko called.

The river was the {2-Diamonds} and Horkko checked. Losev fired a bet and Horkko called. Losev showed only {9-Hearts} {3-Hearts} for nine high. Horkko turned up {Q-Spades} {5-Diamonds} for two pair, fives and deuces to scoop the pot.

Buchanan Trips Ray

Kyle Ray raised the button before Shawn Buchanan rereaised in the small blind. Ray made the call and they saw a flop of {K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. Buchanan fired out a bet and Ray made the call.

The turn was the {J-Hearts} and Buchanan checked to Ray who bet, but Buchanan put in the check-raise. Ray made the call and then called the river bet when the {4-Clubs} landed.

Buchanan tabled {J-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for trip jacks to take it down.
