Day 1 Completed

Day 1 Comes to an End

Gavin Smith accumulated a nice stack throughout the day

The field was even larger than last year with 452 runners in all and the day was long for all of the 198 players that made it through to the second day. However, David Benyamine, Shannon Elizabeth, Vanessa Rousso, Stefan Rapp, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, and Mike "The Mouth" Matusow all toppled today. Gavin Smith Barry Greenstein, John Juanda, Phillip "J.B." Penn, David Singer, and Chris Amaral all have solid stacks going into Day 2. There are plenty of pros still left in the field and this is setting up to be an amazing three days of mixed-game play.

The remaining players will be returning tomorrow at 2:00 PM local time to trek on through in hopes of making the final table. Be sure to come back tomorrow for all of the action. We'll see you then!

Two Women Not Enough for Wong

Omaha-8

According to Steve Wong, he raised on the button with {J-?} {8-?} {4-?} {4-?} in an attempt to attack the blinds. Both the small blind, Cyndy Violette, and the big blind, Katja Thater, called. The flop came down {A-?} {10-?} {4-?} with two clubs and all three players got into a raising battle that found Thater and Violette all in with Wong having them covered.

Wong showed {J-?} {8-?} {4-?} {4-?}. Thater held {Q-Clubs} {J-Clubs}-X-X for a flush draw and straight draw. Violette held {A-?} {3-?} {2-?}-X. The turn was a four and then the river a king. Wong was able to bust both women with quad fours and send them to the rail.

Schaaf tabled {A-Spades} {7-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {7-Spades} ({A-Diamonds} {7-Hearts}-X) for a full house, aces full of sevens. The third player mucked his hand and then Rousso showed her hole cards. Luske Singing Away

Fly Dutchman, fly high
Fly Dutchman, fly high
Stud-8

The boards read as follows between three players.

Unknown player: (X-X) {K-Spades} {2-Hearts} {4-Clubs}
Kelly Kim: (X-X) {Q-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {6-Clubs} (X)
Marcel Luske: (X-X) {5-Spades} {8-Clubs} {7-Hearts} {9-Spades} (X)

Picking up the action on fifth street, the two players checked to Luske. He fired a bet and only Kelly Kim called. Kim was dealt a {6-Clubs} on sixth and Luske was dealt the {9-Spades}. The action checked.

After receiving their final cards, both players squeezed and then checked their options. Luske rolled over {Q-Clubs} {7-Spades} {3-Hearts} to add to his board, but all he had was a pair of sevens. Kim saw this and mucked his hand.

"A gift from the gods." Marcel proclaimed. "I missed a low, but hit two sevens, wow."

Luske now has 33,000 chips and his spirits are high because he is singing away at his table.
