Lady Penalized, Patronized

An unfortunate lady was taken aside by a floorman who most apologetically explained to her that she was being penalized for checking the nuts.

"You see, you had the best hand possible, so if someone bets you have to raise and if someone checks you have to bet, you have to create action. See, if you don't, then it's more like a home game, with everyone just checking and all friendly..."

The lady in question looked suitably patronized, and was issued her penalty on top of that.

ElkY Doing Well-kY

Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier is up above his starting stack after somehow getting involved from the button with {10-?} {2-?} and spiking a ten against his opponent's {A-?} {J-?}.

He's up 31,000.

Binger Up To 50k

Facing a raise before him, Michael Binger bumped it to 1,200 more, with his opponent making the call.

The flop of {7-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{4-Spades} was checked through to see the {9-Diamonds} fall on the turn and a 1,800-chip bet follow from Binger.

His opponent made the call, and when the {8-Hearts} fell on the turn, Binger fired 2,800 which was also called by his opponent.

Binger tabled {A-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} to take down the pot and move to over 48,000 in chips.

Tran's Opponent Misses

From the cutoff seat, JC Tran raised to 550 and was called by both blinds. The flop came down {J-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} and action checked to Tran. He bet out 800 with only the big blind making the call.

The turn brought the {A-Clubs} and action checked to Tran. He fired 1,600 this time and his opponent called.

The river brought the {8-Hearts} and after the big blind checked, Tran bet 2,800. His opponent folded, showing that he tossed {9-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} into the muck for a busted flush draw. Tran is back up to 21,500.

A Modest Proposal Gives Swift Pot

Bryan Swift was just now in a potentially uncomfortable spot. An early position preflop raise from Swift attracted a couple of callers behind and two more from the blinds, meaning there were five all told who saw the flop come {J-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{7-Spades}.

It checked to Swift who proposed a half-pot sized bet in an effort to claim the rest. One by one all of his opponents dropped out, and the pot was his. Swift showed the table his {A-Spades}{A-Hearts} as he took the chips.

Swift is at about 25,500.

Mitchell Lets One Go

Will Mitchell is a friendly young Australian who is a regular on ChipMeUp under the username "wrkngball".

Mitchell is thrilled to be a part of the WSOP Main Event, but after a bright start, he's just taken a small hit to be back below his starting stack.

Mitchell raised under the gun and the fired bets of 1,800 on the flop and 2,900 on the turn, before checking the action over to his opponent on the river on a board of {K-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. His opponent moved all in for 10,275 and Mitchell was forced to let it go to slip down to 28,000 chips.

Somerville Back Up to His Starting Stack

Jason "JCarver" Somerville raised to 450 from under the gun. The big blind was the only caller and the two players took the flop of {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs} {6-Diamonds}. The big blind fired out a bet of 600 and Somerville called.

The turn brought the {3-Diamonds} and the big blind bet 2,200 this time. Somerville called again.

The river was the {7-Hearts} and the big blind bet a little less than his previous bet with 2,000. Somerville called and tabled {A-Spades} {5-Spades}. His opponent mucked and Somerville moved back up to 30,000.

Baldwin Brings His Own Clock

Eric Baldwin is down to just 6,400 chips after making a big river call on a board of {10-Hearts}{8-Spades}{7-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. Baldwin had checked the action over to his opponent on the button who fired 6,175 into the middle.

Baldwin sat in the tank for several minutes. Eventually one of the players asked for the clock to which Baldwin responded, "Don't worry, I'll watch my own watch and make a decision soon!"

He did and it was to call, but his {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} wasn't enough to overcome his opponent's {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}.

Becalmed In Brasilia

Even though the Brasilia room has all 78 tables filled currently, there seems to be a certain energy missing. The somber atmosphere seems to have everyone playing a little more conservative.

We did find bracelet winner Eric 'E-Fro' Froehlich involved in a small battle of the blinds. Froehlich raised to 600 from the small, the big blind would then make it 3,000 total, as E-Fro made the call.

Both players would check the flop of {2-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} . When the {5-Clubs} fell on the turn, Froehlich led out for 3,800; his opponent would fold. 'E-Fro' is off to a respectable start and is at 45,000.
