Levi Flops Straight, Sends One Home

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

A player in early position limped and Vedat Levi limped in behind from middle position. The player on the button raised to 6,000 and action folded back around to Levi, who peeled, taking action heads up to a flop of {j-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{q-Spades}.

Levi checked and the player on the button bet 6,000. Levi put in a check-raise of enough chips to put his opponent to a decision for his remaining 21,000 or so.

Upon realizing he was being put to a decision for his tournament life, Levi's opponent told the table he was going to need some time to think about the situation. No less than 15 seconds passed before the player committed the rest of his chips.

Vedat Levi: {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

Levi's opponent was in need of one of the last three tens in the deck in order to improve to Broadway and stay alive. The turn and river fell {6-Spades}{j-Clubs} and Levi secured the elimination, adding to his stack and bringing him back to around where he started for the day.

Machon Turns the Best

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Three players headed to a flop of {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} with around 9,000 in the middle. The big blind checked to Bartlomiej Machon who bet 3,000 from the hijack. The cutoff raised to 8,000 which got the big blind to fold but Machon called.

The turn was the {6-Diamonds} and both players checked to the {6-Clubs} on the river. Machon led out for 18,000 and his opponent snap-called. He called so fast, Machon was scared to turn his hand over. His opponent tabled {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for two pair but Machon held {q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for a flush.

Timex Averts His Gaze

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Mike McDonald
Mike McDonald

Mike "Timex" McDonald raised to 2,700 on the button, and Jarod Minghini called in the big blind.

"No stare?" McDonald, known for his steely staredown, asked Minghini, who said, "No, I've already had the staredown once today!"

Before the {9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop fell, McDonald cupped his hand in front of his eye to avoid looking at Minghini, to the delight of his tablemates. Minghini checked and McDonald bet 2,400. Minghini called.

Both players checked the {j-Diamonds} turn, and Minghini bet 6,600 after the {q-Diamonds} river fell.

"I'm supposed to be looking at you right now," McDonald said. He brought his hand down from his face, but true to his word, looked only at the board and not at Minghini before folding, saying, "Ace-high?"

Minghini tabled {a-Hearts}{4-Spades} for a pair of fours, prompting McDonald to say, "Dammit. I almost called you really light."

"Poor guy, he just can't catch a break over here!" Minghini said with a grin, as both he and McDonald have increased their stacks significantly since the start of the day.

Neilson Cautious With Trips

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Daniel Neilson bet about 6,500 from the button on {q-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} and an opponent in middle position called. On the {j-Diamonds} river, the first player checked. Neilson thought around 30 seconds before patting it back. His opponent showed {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} but Neilson's {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} was good for the pot.

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Scott Blumstein opened for 2,700 in middle position and got action from Mustapha Kanit on the button and Antonio Esfandiari in the big blind. Action checked to the Italian on {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}{3-Spades} and he bet 3,400. Only Blumstein continued. The {j-Spades} turn checked through and the {q-Spades} made a four-flush on board. Blumstein fired big with 30,200 and Kanit needed only seconds before mucking.

888 Poker Qualifier Hu Takes From Brull

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

The complete {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} board was already out there and there was a couple thousand in the middle. Christoph Brull checked to the Dutchman David Hu and he checked behind.

Brull opened up {8-Spades}{8-Hearts} and the 888 Poker qualifier Hu showed {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for a better pair he managed to hit on the river.

Hu is still down from where he started today while Brull is climbing.

Hoellein Folds All but One

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Jon Hoellein was looking for some media attention today as he's parked in the back corner of the Pavilion Room in the yellow section. After arriving at his table, Hoellein folded both his button and cutoff hands.

In the next hand, Hoellein raised to 2,200 in the hijack and was called by both of the blinds. The flop came {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and the action checked to Hoellein who continued for 4,000. The small blind folded but the big blind called. The turn was the {5-Clubs} and both players checked to the {k-Spades} on the river. Two more checks and the big blind turned over {a-Spades}{4-Spades} for the best hand.

Hoellein went on to fold his next three hands as well and has seen his chip count slide to just over 110,000 after starting the day with over 140,000 chips.
