Event #15: $5,300 NLH High Roller Freezeout
Day 1 Completed
On Thursday, the 2021 WSOP Online Event #15: $5,300 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller Freezout attracted 188 players to create a $940,000 prize pool, and after 11 hours of play, it was Justin "Jsaliba2" Saliba coming out on top to win the $253,800 first-place prize and his first career gold bracelet.
With lifetime earnings of $171,616 dating back just two years according to The Hendon Mob, he has amassed $163,465 over the last three months and has now added a top score of $253,800 to his total, along with a shiny new piece of WSOP hardware.
Place | Player | Prize |
---|---|---|
1 | Justin "Jsaliba2" Saliba | $253,800 |
2 | Jonathan "Art.Vandelay" Dokler | $148,050 |
3 | Jesse "Patient0" Yaginuma | $84,600 |
4 | Alex "OrcinusOrca" Foxen | $65,800 |
5 | Martin "bathroomline" Zamani | $56,400 |
6 | Joshua "Zeal1906" Ray | $47,000 |
7 | John "Macallan25" Riordan | $35,720 |
8 | Thomas "HavanaClub" Boivin | $22,560 |
9 | Michael "BrockLesnar" Holtz | $15,980 |
The tournament attracted some of the biggest names in poker but the tough field saw many of them fall by the wayside and after Jesse "Patient0" Yaginuma eliminated Craig "mrjanovich" Mason on the money bubble, the 30 remaining players started falling at a rapid pace.
Among the notables to cash were three-time WSOP bracelet winner Nick "Cashusklay" Schulman (29th - $8,554), Tony "Panoramic" Dunst (28th - $8,554), Jason "Haderade" Somerville (18th - $9,870), Ali "SasukeUchiha" Imsirovic (17th - $9,870), Andrew "WATCHGUY42" Lichtenberger (13th - $12,220), and Ryan "Adopt_aDogg0" Leng (12th - $12,220).
The final table witnessed most players sitting fairly deep with Michael "BrockLesnar" Holtz holding over 40 big blinds when he bowed out in ninth place after four-bet jamming from the big blind with a pair of nines and was called by Jonathan "Art.Vandelay" Dokler holding a pair of rockets.
Dokler continued with his hot streak and dusted off Thomas "HavanaClub" Boivin in eighth place after he rivered a six to crack Boivin's pocket threes.
John "Macallan25" Riordan was the next to fall after he lost a race with big slick against Alex "OrcinusOrca" Foxen holding a pair of sixes to fall in seventh place and then Foxen dropped Joshua "Zeal1906" Ray in sixth place after their ladies laid waste to his ace-queen.
Not long after, Martin "bathroomline" Zamani hit the elimination train when he jammed his stack into the middle holding ace-eight and was called by Yaginuma holding a king-nine. Zamani held the better hand but a king appeared in the window to send him out in fifth place.
With four players remaining the stacks were even and extremely deep, each player sat with roughly 40 big blinds. As levels were 20-minutes in length, many went by before Foxen started handing out doubles and lost the majority of his chips holding pocket sevens against Saliba's pocket king. Foxen was left with only one big blind and Saliba delivered the final blow the very next hand sending him home fourth place.
Three-handed action saw Saliba hold a significant chip advantage and he made quick work of Yaginuma eliminating him in third place and Dokler took his exit in second place for $148,050 shortly after.
The 2021 WSOP Online continues on Friday with Event #16: $600 PLO8 6-Handed. PokerNews will be live reporting and streaming the action, so be sure to join us then.

Jesse "Patient0" Yaginuma:
Saliba had Yaginuma dominated and the flop didn't change a thing.
The turn improved Saliba to top two-pair but it also kept Yaginuma alive drawing to broadway.
Unfortunately for Yaginuma, the river wasn't the card he wanted to see and he was eliminated in third place for $84,600.

Few poker players have captured the attention of the poker universe quite like Phil Ivey. There have been plenty of champions of the game who crushed it at the felt, but none who built up the mystique of Ivey, who remains to this day arguably the most magnetic player in poker despite results that no longer match his days of utmost dominance.
A day after the anniversary of Ivey's induction into the Poker Hall of Fame, PokerNews examines the legacy of his WSOP success. Prior to 2000, Ivey didn't have any recorded WSOP cashes.
The 23-year-old didn't waste any time establishing himself as one of the top up-and-coming players. That year, after already making one final table and finishing fifth, Ivey secured his first bracelet. He beat none other than fellow Hall of Famer Amarillo Slim Preston heads up to win Event #14: $2,500 Pot-Limit Omaha, a rebuy event, for his first bracelet and $195,000. Three other Hall of Famers — Chris Bjorin, Phil Hellmuth and David "Devilfish" Ulliott — also competed at that final table, so shipping it was about more than just getting his first taste of gold. Ivey showed he could beat the best in the business.
Two years after that, though, would be when Ivey really showed he was the present and future of the game. In 2002, Ivey showcased his skills at limit poker in a big way.
