Hobbs Takes it Down With Queen-Jack

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

Nicholas Hobbs raised in the cutoff for 500 and the big blind defended. The flop came down with a lovely monotone board of K73. Hobbs placed a continuation bet of 1,500 and the big blind made the call.

Both players checked the turn J and the river 8. Hobbs turned over JQ and, although he missed his flush, he was still good with second pair. The big blind mucked, while stating, "Good hand."

Butler Catches Toma

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

Tsugunari Toma opened to 500 from the hijack and was three-bet to 1,400 by Andrew Butler on the button. Action folded back to Toma and he four-bet to 5,100. Butler called.

Both players checked on the 872 flop and then Toma fired 12,200 into the middle on the J turn. Butler called.

The 8 completed the board and Toma bet 14,400. Butler thought for a while and decided to look Toma up with a call. Toma tabled AQ for a whiffed flushed draw and Butler turned over 76 for eights and sevens, which was enough to drag the large pot early in Day 1d.
