Event #13: $10,000 Dealer's Choice Championship (6-Handed)
Day 1 Completed
George Alexander waited nearly until the last hand of the night before seizing control of the chip lead on Day 1 of Event #13: $10,000 Dealer’s Choice Championship.
Alexander’s set of threes held up in a massive Pot-Limit Omaha pot against David Benyamine as he finished with 277,000 and atop the leaderboard among 68 remaining players. The Florida pro has made three World Series of Poker final tables in a career that dates back to 2010, including finishing in third place in the $1,500 Dealer’s Choice in 2018, but is still looking for his first bracelet.
A star-studded group of players will attempt to chase him down when Day 2 begins tomorrow at 1 p.m. local time. They include Phil Ivey, who late registered and quickly doubled up off Jeff Madsen with two pair against aces to finish with 171,500. Daniel Negreanu dropped down to 12,000 at one point today but came back to bag up 159,500.

The event is close to matching last year’s total of 130 entries. Late registration remains open for the first level of Day 2, so there remains an opportunity for more players to jump into the field. Levels remain 60 minutes until Level 14 when they are extended to 90 minutes for the rest of the tournament.
PokerNews will be back tomorrow inside the Horseshoe Event Center as some of the biggest names in poker chase the prestigious title.

All tables are bagging and tagging as Day 1 of the $10,000 Dealer's Choice has finished play.
Stay tuned for chip counts and a recap of the day.
A-5 Triple Draw
Allen Kessler raised on the button, leaving only 900 chips behind. Jon Turner called in the small blind and so did Luis Concha in the big blind.
Turner and Concha each drew three cards, while Kessler only needed one. The action then checked to Kessler, who tossed in his final chips and received two more calls.
Turner improved and drew one card, while Concha needed two this time around. Kessler also drew one, after which Turner made a bet to create a side pot. Concha called and each player drew one card.
Turner and Concha checked it down, and Turner tabled Kx6x5x4x2x while Concha played a queen-low with Qx5x4x2xAx. Upon seeing the cards Kessler mucked his cards in frustration, after which Turner tried to retrieve them.
Kessler then shuffled his cards in the muck in such a fashion that they were unretrievable, despite the best efforts of the dealer to stop him.
"Oh, now you don't like the rules?" Jerry Wong asked.
Turner agreed and said the ruling is to show in an all-in situation.
"I needed to beat a queen, what do you think I have?" Kessler lamented while he stormed out of the tournament area.

Pot-Limit Omaha
George Alexander and David Benyamine went heads-up to the turn on a board of 6♠3♣2♠K♥. Alexander, on the button, tanked for several minutes before potting for 60,500.
Benyamine then took nearly five minutes before moving all in. Alexander snap-called for 127,000.
Benyamine showed A♠K♦J♠10♠ for top pair and a flush draw, while Alexander had 8♠6♥3♠3♥ for a set of threes. The river was the 6♣ and Alexander improved to a full house to earn the massive double up, moving into contention for the chip lead.

The floor has announced that four more hands will be played before Day 1 ends.
Badugi
Heads-up on the second draw, Michael Martinelli bet, Nick Guagenti raised, and Martinelli called.
Guagenti stood pat and Martinelli took one. Guagenti then bet and prepared to turn over his cards thinking Martinelli called.
"I haven't looked at my last card yet. I'm definitely calling, maybe raising if I hit," Martinelli said. He eventually did put in a raise and Guagenti called.
"Seven," Martinelli announced, turning over 7♣4♦3♠A♥ as Guagenti mucked.

Phil Ivey: XxXx/6♦2♣4♣J♣/Xx
Joao Vieira: XxXx/6♥A♠K♣A♥/Xx
The action was caught on fifth street, where Phil Ivey made a bet and Joao Vieira called. The same sequence occurred on sixth and seventh street, after which Ivey showed 10♣4♠3♣ for a flush and a ten-low.
Vieira could not beat either of those hands and mucked his cards with visible frustration.
