Life Outside Poker is a new podcast for PokerNews hosted by Connor Richards that seeks to pull back the curtain on poker players and allow viewers and listeners to get to know them on a personal level.

In the eighth episode, Connor speaks with legendary UFC ring announcer Bruce Buffer in an exclusive in-depth interview after Buffer's deep run in the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) $50,000 High Roller. Buffer, a longtime poker player, finished in eighth place for a career-best $212,423 after kicking off Day 3 with his trademark "it's time" introduction.

Buffer talked about finding his long-lost half-brother, Michael Buffer, and becoming his manager, the early days of the UFC, the similarities between poker and martial arts, his relationships with Joe Rogan and Dana White, playing poker with Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio and the time he injured himself in a poker tournament before announcing the biggest UFC fight in history.

Russell Rosenblum opened the action with a raise to 1,200 from the cutoff. The player on the button three-bet to 3,000 before the small blind moved all in for 19,700. Rosenblum moved all in for 75,000 and the button player mucked.

Davide Suriano opened to 1,200 from middle position and received a call from a player in the big blind.

The flop came 9♦3♦2♠ and the big blind check-called a 600 continuation bet from Suriano.

Suriano fired a second barrel for 1,200 when checked to on the 10♠ turn and was once again called by his opponent.

On the 8♠ river the big blind checked, Suriano bet 3,000 and the big blind called.

Suriano tabled 9♠9♥ for a set of nines which was good enough to take down the decently-sized pot.

Action checked to the button on a rainbow A♦10♣6♠ flop, and he fired 1,000. The big blind called before Metalidi check-raised to 5,500. Only the button called.

Action went check-check on the 3♦ turn before the button fired 4,000 on the J♠ river. Metalidi made the call and tabled A♠8♠ for the winner. His opponent showed A♥4♥ before mucking.

On a board of 10♦5♠7♥4♥ board, Gus Hansen check-called a big bet from Brandon Schwartz on the button to see the J♥ fall on the river. After Hansen checked, Schwartz moved all in, the bet was for all of Hansen's remaining chips, which amounted to roughly 33,000. Hansen thought for a while and kept saying "I have absolute #$%@, absolute #$%@". A few moments later, Hansen opted for a call.

Scwartz turned over 10♠7♠ for two pair. Hansen nodded his head as the dealer turned over his cards A♠K♣. With that Hansen was eliminated from the tournament.

Eads Completes the Combo Draw to Double

A player in the hijack opened to 1,200 and a player on the button three-bet to 4,000, receiving calls from David Eads in the small blind and the original raiser from the hijack.

On the 8♠3♥2♥ flop Eads shoved for around 30,000. The hijack made the call with a covering stack to put Eads at risk while the button got out of the way.

The hijack had the best made hand with top pair but Eads was a slight favorite with his open-ended straight draw and flush draw. The 2♠ turn was a brick but the flush came in on the Q♥ river giving Eads the winning hand to score a full double up through his opponent.

On a board of 3♦10♣8♠, the player in the small blind had checked over to Kannapong Thanarattrakul, who bet 1,500. The small blind then made it 5,500, and Thanarattrakul three-bet to 11,500. The small blind called.

Both checked the 6♠ turn to see a 2♠ on the river. The small blind shoved all in, which put Thanarattrakul to the test for his remaining 29,800 chips. After some time in the tank, the player from Thailand made the call.

The small blind flipped over Q♦9♦ for a missed straight draw, but Thanarattrakul had the winner holding J♠J♥.
