Day 2 Completed
Day 2 action has come to a close here in Event #20: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em SHOOTOUT at the 2025 World Series of Poker, hosted by the Horseshoe and Paris, Las Vegas. Of the 150 runners who started the day, only 15 players will return for the third and final day on Friday. The remaining competitors will be battling it out for a piece of the $1,724,423 prize pool, with the first place prize of $267,373 going to the winner.
Jason Wheeler and Punnat Punsri headline the action heading into Day 3, with Wheeler chasing his second bracelet and Punsri gunning for his first. Wheeler finished off Jeffrey Hong by winning a flip with pocket tens against Hong's ace-queen in a dramatic runout. Punsri set the trap by limping the button with pocket aces and Vrezh Oganisyan took the bait.
Other notable players to win their matches and earn a seat into Day 3 include Michael Rossitto, Tzur Levy, Drew Oconnell, Duff Charette, and Jordan Westmorland.
In an incredible feat, Joshua Thomas steamrolled another table and was first to bag up for Day 3 after doing the same yesterday in Day 2. Thomas told PokerNews that much like yesterday, he picked up the chip lead early on in the day and retained it through to the very end. After only having played four hours today, Thomas will be well rested for tomorrow's championship day.
Ryan Otto was sent to the rail in 84th when he ran his ace-nine into Wheeler's Big Slick. Eric Baldwin fell to Kevin Song in 65th when his straight was outmatched by Song's higher straight. Baldwin could only say, "Sick," as he left the table.
Others who made an appearance during Day 2 but fell short of making it through to the final day include Nicholas Seward (58th), Blake Bohn (54th), Aram Zobian (40th), Aaron Pinson (28th), Christian Roberts (25th), and Pablo Mariz (16th).

The remaining entrants will start the day with the same amount of chips they accrued by advancing from Day 2 and the format for Day 3 will switch to a 15-player freezeout.

Day 2 of the Event #20: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em SHOOTOUT is done with Joel Vazquez as the last of 15 qualifiers moving into the Final Day.
A full recap of the day will follow shortly.
Pablo Mariz jammed on the button for 675,000 to put himself at risk and Joel Vazquez called in the big blind.
Pablo Mariz: Q♦2♦
Joel Vazquez: 2♣2♥
Vazquez's pair of deuces remained in the lead all the way on the runout of 10♣8♥K♠4♥2♠, ending the last match of Day 2.

At the last table in the tournament, Pablo Mariz and Joel Vazquez were fighting it out to qualify for the next level. In one hand that shifted the chip lead, Mariz shoved all-in on the button and got a snap-call from Vazquez, taking them to showdown.
Joel Vazquez: K♠Q♦
Pablo Mariz: K♦10♣
Vazquez was ahead with the better kicker when the flop 8♠9♦J♦ dropped, giving both players a gutshot straight. The turn 10♦ completed Vazquez straight, putting him in the lead and potentially securing him a double up and the chip lead. The river 3♣ didn't change anything. Vazquez and his rail both cheered the much-needed boost.

Pablo Mariz and Joel Vazquez are the last remaining heads-up match, and just played a crucial hand. Vazquez limped on the button, and Mariz raised from the big blind to 160,000. Vazquez stuck around.
Mariz continued on the J♣10♣4♦ flop for 100,000. Vazquez peeled and the two players were off to a turn.
The turn brought the K♠, and now Mariz checked. Vazquez then announced a bet of 325,000. Mariz wasn't ready to give up his hand just yet, and made the call.
The Q♥ on the river completed the board, and Mariz checked again. Vazquez checked behind. Mariz revealed the A♥10♠ for a straight, and took down the pot.

Zyad Qasem and Weston Pring had extremely similar stack sizes when they arrived at the turn, with the board reading 8♦3♥9♦J♠. Pring decided he was ready to play for everything, as he announced "all in," however he instantly knew he was drawing thin as Qasem snap-called his bet and tables his cards triumphantly.
Weston Pring: 10♥9♥
Zyad Qasem: Q♦10♠
Although the turn seemed like a great card for Pring, making him open ended, it improved Qasem to the stone-cold nuts. Pring was unable to find the chop he was drawing to on the 5♥ river, and stacks were counted, revealing Pring was just about covered. He noted that if it had been one hand ago, he wouldv'e still been breathing on an extremely short stack, however unfortunately for him this was not the case as it was Qasem who advanced to Day 3
