2025 WSOP "Not Going to Be About Results" for Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu will enter the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) "with a little bit of a different attitude" in his first year of Seniors Event eligibility, GGPoker's top ambassador told PokerNews.

The 50-year-old is coming off three straight losing summers. But that doesn't concern him, especially considering he ended an 11-year bracelet drought in 2024 when he took down the prestigious $50,000 Poker Players Championship. He's more focused on having fun and playing sound poker than the results.

"The World Series for me, it's not going to be about results that much, because that's luck, right," Negreanu explained. "Luck is going to play into the results. For me, I want to have a good time."

Welcome back to PokerNews, the official media partner of the 2025 World Series of Poker and home of live updates from all bracelet events.

Event #22: $25,000 High Roller 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em shuffles up and deals at 12 p.m. local time at the Horseshoe and Paris, Las Vegas. This edition marks the third time the event has run since debuting in 2023. The tournament attracted 207 players in 2023, which increased to 272 in 2024. Could the attendance break through 300 entrants in 2025?

Some of the world's best players and biggest names will buy in and receive 150,000 chips to begin their quest for WSOP glory. Levels last 60 minutes from start to finish, with eight levels scheduled on Day 1. Players are permitted to reenter once before the end of the ninth level, which is around 1:15 p.m. local time on Day 2.

Although no dinner break is planned on Day 1, players will enjoy a 15-minute rest every two levels. Survive the night, and they'll return to the action at 12 p.m. local time on Friday, June 6, to play another 10 levels. A third day is scheduled for June 7 with a yet-to-be-decided start time.

Brek Schutten is the reigning champion of this event. Schutten, an ICU nurse, swapped the hospital for the Horsehoe in 2024 with excellent results. The champion scooped his first WSOP bracelet plus a career-best $1,405,641 score.

Schutten told PokerNews he felt vindicated after finishing runner-up in the $50,000 High Roller in 2022.

“I got second to Jake Schindler and just had those regrets ever since," he said in a winner's interview. "Certain hands go through your mind all the time, and you never know if you’re going to get back to a high roller final table, let alone heads up, let alone win the thing.”
