Hellmuth's Home Game

Every Monday night, Hellmuth’s Home Game presented by Poker Night in America (PNIA) and sponsored by BetRivers is once again airing on CBS Sports on Monday nights.

The nationally-televised show, which was filmed at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada and is unique in that there is no commentary. Instead, the show is carried by table talk from Phil Hellmuth alongside a cast of fellow pros and friends in an intimate, relaxed cash game setting.

PokerNews watched Episode 19 and compiled a recap of some of the biggest hands and interesting storylines.

Here’s how things stacked up at the start of the episode:

PlayerStack
“Texas” Mike Moncek$59,300
Dan “Jungleman” Cates$26,775
Jennifer Tilly$14,650
DJ Washburn$4,950
Phil Hellmuth$4,650
Randy “3Coin” Sadler$6,775
Kelly Lucas$5,700

The game was played with $25/$50 blinds with a $50 big blind ante, and more often than not, a $100 straddle was on. Here’s a look at some of the biggest hands from the episode.

Will Texas Mike Set the Record?

In the first hand of the episode, DJ Washburn called $100 from early position with the 22 and Texas Mike raised to $500 with the 99 in the hijack. Randy “3Coin” Sadler came along from the cutoff with the 98 before Dan “Jungleman” Cates three-bet to $2,800 with the AQ in the small blind.

Action folded back to Texas Mike, who four-bet to $6,300, and 3Coin got out of the way. Cates then five-bet all in for $26,775 total, and Texas Mike called. It was off to the races in a pot worth $54,350

The K29 flop gave Texas Mike a set, and he locked it up on the Q turn. The meaningless 5 was run out on the river as Hellmuth stated, “Texas Mike may set the record for biggest win … the record is $86,000.”

After the hand, Texas Mike was $55,875 in profit, though that would change dramatically by the end of the episode.

Texas Mike Just Can’t Resist

Action folded around to Texas Mike in the small blind, and he raised to $1,300 with the J7. Cates and Jennifer Tilly called from their respective straddles, and it was three-way action to a flop of 10A10, which all three players checked.

Texas Mike then checked the 8 turn, Cates bet $1,500, and Tilly folded. Texas Mike then woke up with a check-raise to $4,300, and Cates called to see the A river.

Texas Mike returned to checking, and Cates bet $20,000 leaving himself just $6,000 behind. Texas Mike didn’t have much, but must’ve put Cates on air as he moved all in. Obviously, Cates called with aces full and took down a pot worth $64,700.

Cates & Texas Mike Clash Again

DJ Washburn raised to $300 from the hijack with the 55, and Texas Mike made it $700 to go next to act with the 98. Cates then four-bet to $3,000 from the big blind with the 108, Washburn folded, and Texas Mike called to see the action flop of 10109.

Cates bet $2,500 with trips and Texas Mike called, which brought about the 7 on the turn. Cates bet $5,000, and Texas Mike, who picked up an up-and-down straight draw, moved all in for $46,000. Cates, who had the same straight draw, snap-called, and just like that, there was $103,475 in the pot.

The J river gave both players the straight, and they ended up chopping up the six-figure pot.

“That Hand’s Going Viral”

Texas Mike raised to $500 after looking down at the AQ in the small blind, and Cates three-bet to $2,300 from the straddle with the JJ. Texas Mike pushed back to the tune of $6,000, and Cates called to see a flop of 2410.

Texas Mike bet $3,100, Cates called, and the K appeared on the turn. Texas Mike bet again, this time $13,500, and Cates called to see the 8 river.

Texas Mike moved all in, and Cates, who had $58,775 behind, hit the tank. Eventually, he called and took down the $162,850 pot.

“Wow, that hand’s going viral,” Hellmuth exclaimed.

Quads for Hellmuth

Nick Hellmuth, who replaced Jennifer Tilly in the game, raised to $200 under the gun with the KQ and DJ Washburn called from the cutoff with the QJ. 3Coin came along from the button with the A7, and Hellmuth did the same from the small blind with the 54 before Cates called from the big with the 105.

It was five-way action to a flop of K44 and action checked to Nick Hellmuth, who continued for $600. Action folded back to his dad, who just called with trips, and Cates check-raised to $2,000 with his spade flush draw.

Nick Hellmuth moved all in for $2,200 total with his two pair, and both his dad and Cates called. The 4 turn saw Hellmuth check his quads and Cates checked behind. When the 9 completed the board on the river, Hellmuth bet $6,000 and Cates snap-folded.

“I should’ve moved in on the flop,” Hellmuth lamented while simultaneously felting his son.

Here’s how things looked at the end of the episode.
