Phil Hellmuth’s Youngest Son, Nick Hellmuth, Makes Televised Poker Debut
Table Of Contents
Every Monday night, Hellmuth’s Home Game presented by Poker Night in America (PNIA) and sponsored by BetRivers is once again airing on CBS Sports on Monday nights.
The nationally-televised show, which was filmed at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada and is unique in that there is no commentary. Instead, the show is carried by table talk from Phil Hellmuth alongside a cast of fellow pros and friends in an intimate, relaxed cash game setting.
PokerNews watched Episode 14 and compiled a recap of some of the biggest hands and interesting storylines.
Here’s how things stacked up at the start of the episode:
| Seat | Player | Stack |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Randy “3Coin” Sadler | $5,000 |
| 2 | “Texas” Mike Moncek | $5,000 |
| 3 | Jennifer Tilly | $5,000 |
| 4 | Phil Hellmuth | $5,000 |
| 5 | Kelly Minkin | $5,000 |
| 6 | Nick Hellmuth | $5,000 |
| 7 | Pink | $5,000 |
The game was played with $25/$50 blinds with a $50 big blind ante, and more often than not, a $100 straddle was on. Here’s a look at some of the biggest hands from the episode.
Welcome, Nick Hellmuth
In an earlier episode of Hellmuth’s Home Game, viewers were introduced to Hellmuth’s son, Phillip Hellmuth III. In Episode 14, poker fans got a chance to meet Hellmuth’s youngest son, Nick Hellmuth.
“I just want to welcome my son, Nick,” Hellmuth said. “He decided to become a professional poker player in July and quit his job. We’ll see if he has the steam and momentum. I didn’t push him. I pushed my kids away from poker. Nick’s in his 30s. They wanna play poker, that’s great, I’ll support them, but Nick, welcome to the table. Love you, Nick.”
All In on First Hand
In the first hand of the episode, Pink raised to $2,000 from the button with the A♣2♦, and 3Coin called from the small blind holding the Q♦6♦. Texas Mike then three-bet to $1,200 from the big blind with the A♦J♣ and Pink wasted little time in moving all in. 3Coin quickly got out of the way, and Texas Mike called off to create a $10,150 pot.
The duo only ran it once, and the 8♠J♠6♥ flop gave Texas Mike a hammerlock on the hand. The 3♠ turn left Pink drawing dead, and he reloaded for another $5,000 after the meaningless 5♥ was run out on the river.
“Get this off to a bang,” Jennifer Tilly quipped.
To make matters worse, in the very next hand, Pink jammed the turn with straight and flush draws and got called by Kelly Minkin, who had second pair. They ran it twice, but Pink missed both to reload a second time and be in the game for $15,000 just two hands in.
“I’m Just Doing It for Fun”
Tilly raised to $400 first to act with the Q♥8♥ and Pink called from the small blind with the 9♣4♣. Texas Mike, who had straddled to $100, then three-bet jammed for $3,850 with the K♥10♣.
“I really want to play my hand. It’s not really a $3,800 hand, but it’s probably a better hand than yours. Let’s have some fun,” Tilly said before calling, which inspired Pink to fold.
“I’m just doing it for fun, that’s all,” Tilly explained before the flop fell 3♣3♥5♥.
“I would like a heart. A beautiful heart,” Tilly chirped after flopping a flush draw. The A♠ turn was no help, but the J♥ river was. Tilly made her flush and pulled in the $8,200 pot while Texas Mike reloaded for $5,000, which he jammed the next hand with A♦2♥. Tillycalled with the K♣J♣ and felted Texas Mike in back-to-back hands after the board ran out 4♣6♠K♥10♣5♥.
Texas Mike reloaded for $5,000 once again and was in the game for $25,000.
The Jennifer Tilly Show
3Coin limped the button with the A♥J♠, Texas Mike called $25 more from the small blind with the 4♠2♣, and Tilly checked her option with the 10♣7♠ in the big. The 9♥J♣8♥ flop saw Texas Mike check and Tilly bet $100 with a flopped straight. 3Coin raised to $1,000 with top pair, Texas Mike folded, and Tilly just called.
Both players then checked the Q♣ turn, and the J♥ completed the board on the river. Tilly bet $2,000, and 3Coin wasted little time in moving all in for $5,075. It was a scary river that paired the board and out three hearts out there, but Tilly called and took down a pot worth $12,350.
“It is the Jennifer Tilly show,” Hellmuth exclaimed. “She busted three people in three hands, am I wrong?”
Hellmuth vs Hellmuth
Nick Hellmuth looked down at the 9♠9♣ – the same hand his dad used to win the 1989 WSOP Main Event – and raised to $300 from the hijack. He received two calls before the action was on Phil Hellmuth in the straddle.
“Boy, I hate to raise my own son,” Hellmuth said before three-betting to $2,400.
“Why’d it have to be you who raised it?” Nick responded before moving all in for $3,100. Two folds saw Hellmuth call, and it was father versus son for a $6,850 pot. The family members agreed to run it twice, and the 3♣6♠4♠8♥7♠ on the first runout gave half the pot to Nick.
The 9♦J♥J♣4♦J♠ on the second was even better and Nick Hellmuth scooped the pot.
“Elder abuse,” Pink joked.
Ladies Do Battle
Action folded to Texas Mike on the button, and he raised to $400 with the 10♦2♥, which Tilly called from the small blind with the A♣10♥. Minkin came along from the straddle with the A♥9♠, and it was three-way action to a flop of A♦Q♥9♥.
Two checks saw Texas Mike continue for $800, and Tilly called. Minkin then check-raised to $2,500 with two pair, Texas Mike folded, and Tilly called to see the J♠ turn.
Tilly, who picked up an up-and-down straight draw, led out for $3,000 and then called when Minkin moved all in for $4,675. With $16,450 in the pot, the ladies agreed to run it twice with the 7♠ on the first being good for Minkin. The J♥ on the second meant they chopped it, so Tilly got quartered in the hand.
Here’s how things looked at the end of the episode.
