Goodbye Mr. Gates

Gates is G-O-R-N ...
Gates is G-O-R-N ...
The dream is over and it's back behind the laptop for PokerNews general Garry Gates after he was busted at the hands of Sarvesh Pershad.

Pershad raised preflop to 5,000 and Gates called to go heads-up to a flop of {7-Spades}{8-Spades}{7-Clubs}.

Pershad opened for 6,500, Gates raised all in and Pershad called tabling {K-Spades} {K-Clubs} ahead of Gates' {A-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds}

The turn of the {7-Hearts} filled up Pershad, but Gates could still win with any ace on the river or the case seven - but the {6-Clubs} didn't exactly fit the description.

Gates is busto; Pershad has cracked the 100,000 mark.

Wan Chips Up

The money was all in preflop; Vincent 'Wonky' Wan held {a-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} but found himself dominated by the {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} of his short-stacked opponent.

The player count would shrink after the board was spread {q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs}{7-Clubs} - Wan's trip fives cracked the opponent's aces and moved his stack upwards to around 80,000.

Master-akos!

Jim Mastorakos had been relatively quiet throughout the day but found himself in a massive pot on feature table 31.

The player on the button raised to 3,500, Mastorakos called from the small blind, as did the big blind, to go three-ways into a flop of {a-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{8-Hearts}.

Mastorakos checked, the big blind opened for 5,000 and the button got out of the way before Mastorakos called, so it was heads-up to the turn of the {2-Spades}.

Mastorakos check-called the big blind's bet of 15,000, then on the river {4-Spades}, Mastorakos checked, the big blind player shoved for around 100,000 and Mastorakos snap-called all-in for 73,400.

Mastorakos: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Big Blind: {q-?}{j-?}

The dealer quickly mucked the opponent's hand - despite the scary-looking board Mastorakos' top two pair was good to take down the pot and the overall chip lead with a stack of 196,000.

Chips Soothe the Savage Beast

The action folded around to Ben Savage who raised to 3,500 preflop, only to see an opponent call from the big blind to go heads-up to a flop that read {7-Spades}{10-Spades}{3-Hearts}.

The big blind fired out 6,500 and Savage smooth-called, then after dealer produced the {4-Spades} on the turn, Savage called the opponent's all in bet and the cards were rolled up:

Savage: {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Big blind: {7-?}{5-?}

The river {q-Hearts} improved neither hand but Savage's tens were good to eliminate the opponent and move up to 48,000 in chips.

Pravis Picked Off

On a flop that read {4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{5-Spades}, Peter Pravis got his money into the middle against Vincent Wan. We caught the action as the cards were tabled:

Wan: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}
Pravis: {5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}

Pravis was in a world of hurt but still had a slim chance with an open-ended straight draw. Not this time - the turn and river ran {10-Diamonds},{10-Hearts} to send Wan's stack to 40,000 and Pravis packing.

In-Dunst-ructable

Tony Dunst has added to his stack and broken the 100k mark after he eliminated another opponent with {A-?} {7-?} against {A-?} {6-?} with the seven kicker somehow playing after a {K-?} {9-?} {8-?} flop when the turn and river came {4-?} and {3-?}.
