Flashback: Thomas Eychenne's Dream Becomes Reality in 2025 EPT Barcelona Main Event

For his entire poker career, Thomas Eychenne would lie awake at night and imagine himself on a big stage, surrounded by bright lights and the blinding flash of cameras, as he hoisted a major trophy in the air. There were many opportunities for him to achieve that dream, but he always came up just a bit short. Still, he never gave up hope that it would happen one day.

Those hopes were realized last summer, as the 35-year-old Frenchman defeated Sebastian Ionita heads-up to win the 2025 PokerStars European Poker Tour Barcelona Main Event title and €1,217,175. With it came his biggest career score after conquering the massive 2,045-player field, but also, just as importantly, his first-ever live tournament win.

Big blind Mark Teltscher check-raised when Nazar Buhaiov bet on the 9♦K♦8♦ flop. Buhaiov called in middle position before he was checked to on the 2♦ turn.

Buhaiov retook the initiative with a bet of 75,000. Teltscher called, seeing the 5♠ roll off on the river. He checked again, prompting Buhaiov to size up to 180,000.

Teltscher spent a few of his time banks before he called. Buhaiov flung open K♥Q♦ for a flush, and Teltscher tapped the table while sending his cards to the muck.

From the cutoff on a flop of 2♠Q♠A♦, Michel Karim check-called a bet of 45,000 from Duncan Cameron on the button.

The 10♦ turn checked through to see the 7♣ arrive on the river. Karim then announced all-in and pushed his 207,000 across the betting line.

Cameron immediately winced at the sight of the shove, thought about it briefly, and then waved the white flag.

Karim proudly turned over J♣10♠ for just third pair, which got a glance from Cameron, who had a front-row seat as he was on Karim's direct left.

With about 275,000 in the pot on a board of 10♦8♦A♦7♥, Jianxing Kuang checked from the big blind and faced a bet of 180,000 from Joris Ruijs on the button. Kuang thought it over, then continued via a call.

A final check came from Kuang on the 5♠ river and, after a few moments, Ruijs jammed, covering Kuang.

Kuang used two of his time banks before deciding to fold, preserving his stack of around 500,000.

Joao Webber raised to 20,000 in early position, which Alexander Ivarsson called in the cutoff. Ivo Colaco then three-bet to 45,000 on the button, which removed Webber, but Ivarsson called once again.

When Ivarsson checked on the J♠2♣4♣ flop, Colaco continued with a bet of 45,000, leaving roughly 200,000 behind in his stack. Ivarsson didn't hang around to try to get the remaining chips in, check-jamming, with Colaco's stack comfortably covered. After some time in the tank, Colaco elected to call.

Alexander Ivarsson: 6♣5♣

Colaco had sniffed out that his ace-high was the best hand, but his decision to call was quickly punished as the 5♦ turn saw Ivarsson take the lead.

The 3♣ completed the board, with Ivarsson eliminating Colaco in style after rivering a straight flush.

Dohyeok Kim raised his button to 20,000. Guilherme Stoliar then moved all in for 42,000 in the small blind, and big blind Jose Quintas four-bet to 110,000. Kim called to the 6♦8♦3♠ flop, which Quintas checked to him.

Kim fired a bet of 55,000, but quickly folded when Quintas raised.

Stoliar's nines remained ahead on the 4♣ turn, but the river fell the K♦ to decide the pot in Quintas' favor and send Stoliar to the exit.
