Chan Ousts Cheng to Seize Early Lead

Level 3 : 150/300, 25 ante
Peter Chan
Peter Chan

Yue Peng Cheng has become the first official high rolling casualty, falling at the hands of Hong Kong's Peter Chan, who has edged into an early lead.

The hand was an interesting multi-way affair, at least at first, with Chan opening the action to 800 from the hijack and picking up three callers, with Yue Peng Cheng (cutoff), Mingqin Liu (button) and Yuan Li (big blind) all coming along for the ride to take the action four-way to a flop of {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{7-Hearts}.

After Li checked from the big blind Chan was not deterred with all those customers and led for 1,300. Cheng and Liu both made the call before Li popped it up to 4,800 with a check-raise. Chan showed a great deal of strength and raised once more, making it 11,000 to go in total and Yue Peng Cheng then decided to move all-in for 19,500 in total.

The rest of the table seemed a little taken aback at all the action and all bowed out, with the exception of Chan, who made the call to put Cheng at risk.

Peter Chan: {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Yue Peng Cheng: {j-Spades}{10-Spades}

Cheng was the man whose tournament life was on the line, and his jack-high open-ended straight draw was trailing to Chan's ace-high gutshot draw. The {q-Spades} changed nothing and the {7-Spades} river completed the hand, and Cheng's first buy-in in this tournament as the Chinese player became the first official casualty, which Chan stacked up to 101,000 to take the chip lead.

Chang Hits Quads

Level 3 : 150/300, 25 ante

He Chang raised to 800 from the cutoff and was called by both Duan Chao and Hoaran Liu in the blinds.

The flop came {9-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and both Chao and Liu checked. Chang continued with a bet of 2,500 and was only called by Chao.

They both checked through the {q-Clubs} on the turn to the {10-Clubs} on the river. Chao now bet 1,800 and Chang called and flipped over {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} for the turned quads to take the pot down.

Liu Outkicks Cheng

Level 2 : 100/200, 25 ante

There were three pre-flop takedowns with Dongzhe Yang raising to 600 and getting no customers in the first and the UK's William Fasano winning the next two with pre-flop three bets from the big and small blind respectively to win back-to-back hands.

Then a decent sized pot played out between Yue Peng Cheng and Mingqin Liu that saw the latter climb towards the top of the leaderboard, though Yi Fan Yang currently still holds that honor.

It was Cheng who was the instigator, making it 600 to go from the hijack, picking up two callers in the form of Liu and Fasano on the cutoff and button respectively.

The {a-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{k-Hearts} flop was checked to Fasano, who took a stab for 1,500. Cheng called and action was back on Liu, who decided to bust out a check-raise and made it 4,500 in total. That was enough to get Fasano to make a quick fold, but Cheng called to take the action heads-up to the {10-Diamonds} turn.

Cheng checked it over to Liu, who fired for 8,000 and after a lengthy visit to the think tank Cheng slid in the call. The {2-Hearts} river saw Cheng seize the initiative and lead for a bet of 13,000 and Liu threw in a speedy call.

Cheng turned over {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} but was outkicked by Liu, who revealed {a-Clubs}{j-Spades} to rake in the pot and climb to 77,700 while Cheng dropped to 52,500.

Yang Takes Early Chip Lead

Level 2 : 100/200, 25 ante

The flop read {4-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{8-Spades} and He Chang had checked his small blind. Duan Chao bet 2,500 from under the gun and was called by both Yi Fan Yang in the cutoff and Chang.

The turn brought them the {q-Hearts}, Chang bet 2,500 and Chao raised to 9,500. Yang considered his options for a minute and decided to call. Chang quickly folded.

The river completed the board with the {A-Diamonds}, Chao now checked. Yang looked at the board once more and decided to bet 9,650. Chao called without hesitating. Yang turned over {q-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for the turned two pair and that was enough for Chao to muck his hand.

Shortly after, Phachara Wongwichit and Ye Wang entered the field causing the 3rd table for the tournament to be opened. The new table now features them and Dongzhe Yang, Yang, Kuisong Wu, and Preston Lee.

Yang Gets Paid

Level 1 : 100/200, 0 ante

Players are wasting no time getting into the action here, and there have been a couple of sizable pots already, though the following hand was a little more reserved.

It was Mingqin Liu opening the action with a bet of 600 from the hijack, with Dongzhe Yang flat calling the button and Preston Lee coming along for the ride from the small blind.

It was checked all around on the {5-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} flop, with the {6-Spades} turn bringing a half-pot sized bet from Lee, a fold from Liu and a call from Yang.

The {3-Diamonds} river saw Lee check the action over to Yang, who took a little time thinking things over before leading out for a tickly 1,500. Lee looked him up, but could only muck when Yang rolled over {4-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for the rivered straight.
