Violleau Spikes the Double

Level 18 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Mehdi Violleau
Mehdi Violleau

Mehdi Violleau moved his final 95,000 chips into the middle from under the gun and Nacho Barbero made the call to his left. The rest of the table folded, leaving Violleau at risk heads up.

Mehdi Violleau: {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}
Nacho Barbero: {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}

Violleau was unable to find help on the {10-Spades}{9-Spades}{9-Clubs} flop or {3-Diamonds} turn, but smiled as the {a-Clubs} river hit the table. Violleau’s pair of aces took down the pot, doubling his stack in the money.

Back to the Booth for Benger

Level 18 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Griffin Benger
Griffin Benger

Griffin Benger opened to 45,000 on the button with just 3,000 behind and Platinum Pass winner Joep van den Bijgaart three-bet to put the PokerStars commentator to the test.

"I actually don't know if I can call this," Benger.

"What?" reacted a confused Tony Tran.

After several minutes of tanking, Benger called it off.

Griffin Benger: {q-Clubs}{9-Hearts}
Joep van den Bijgaart: {q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

Benger was dominated and the board ran out {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{j-Hearts} to give Bijgaart a full house, though he didn't realize it and thought Benger had won with a straight.

"Don't you know how to play poker?!" the commentator joked before leaving the table.

Jaffe Keeps Soaring

Level 18 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

Jonathan Jaffe opened to 27,000 in middle position and the big blind jammed all in for her last 200,000 chips. Jaffe asked for a rough count before flicking in the call.

Big Blind: {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds}
Jonathan Jaffe: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}

Jaffe was in a dominating position and the flop of {9-Spades}{5-Clubs}{2-Clubs} left it that way. The {8-Spades} on the turn and the {8-Hearts} on the river changed nothing and Jaffe continued to add to his seven-figure stack.

WSOP Main Event Champs Get Consecutive Doubles; Moneymaker Then Busts

Level 18 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Chris Moneymaker
Chris Moneymaker

Two former WSOP Main Event champions are seated next two each other on Table 12, with Martin Jacobson being on the direct right of Chris Moneymaker.

Jacobson was all-in for his last 22,000 from the big blind and was at risk to Istvan Pilhofer, who opened from early position.

Martin Jacobson: {a-Spades}{8-Clubs}
Istvan Pilhofer: {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}

Both players paired their aces on the {a-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts} flop but Jacobson's kicker was better. He found the double up following the {j-Spades} turn and {q-Spades} river.

The very next hand, Dinesh Alt opened to 24,000 from the hijack and called when Chris Moneymaker jammed for 45,000 from the cutoff.

Chris Moneymaker: {q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Dinesh Alt: {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

Moneymaker had a gutshot to Broadway but was still behind on the {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} flop. He paired his jack to take the lead on the {j-Spades} turn and held out to rake in the pot when the {8-Clubs} completed the board.

Moneymaker's fortune quickly fizzled out after finding himself all-in again with {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}, up against Pilhofer's {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}. Moneymaker flopped a flush draw on the {j-}{9-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop, but failed to outdraw the kings following the {9-} turn and {10-} river.

The action from the previous Main Event winners was not over though, as Jacobson raised to 55,000 from the cutoff. He had 1,000 left behind and action folded to Andrew Moreno, who was in the big blind. He thought it over but eventually folded and Jacobson chipped up.

Grafton Triples, Pye Busts

Level 18 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Sam Grafton
Sam Grafton

Mason Pye’s middle position raise was met with a shove from Pedro Garagnani in the small blind. Sam Grafton then called for his stack of 245,000 and Pye followed by calling all-in for 133,000 chips.

Mason Pye: {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
Sam Grafton: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Pedro Garagnani: {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}

Grafton’s pocket pair remained ahead after the {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} flop. The {6-Hearts} turn and {4-Hearts} river changed nothing, giving Grafton a near triple-up while Pye was eliminated.

The bubble finally burst after a long hand-for-hand process and the short stacks quickly made their way to the payout desk. Here is a look at some of the highlights from the previous two levels:

"Unlucky Ema" Gets Three-Outed to Double Liberto

Ema Zajmovic
Ema Zajmovic

Justin Liberto was all in and at risk from the big blind against Ema Zajmovic in early position.

Justin Liberto: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
Ema Zajmovic: {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

Liberto's exit looked imminent until the flop landed {8-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} to give him a big lead before the board finished out {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} to keep the American in contention.

"Unlucky, Ema," Rayan Chamas said to comfort Zajmovic.
