Canadian Grand Prix

Day 1i Completed

Salvatore Commisso is the Overall Chip Leader After Day 1i

Salvatore Commisso
Salvatore Commisso

Salvatore Commisso is now the biggest stack heading into Day 2 of partypoker's $500,000 Guarantee Canadian Grand Prix. He bagged the lead ahead of 38 other players who also qualified from his flight. He eliminated two players shortly before the end of the day and ended up bagging a whopping 872,000. This flight drew 386 entries.

Bharat Shetty also passed the previous big stack with 745,500. He called off an open shove with {q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}.

"I'm either going to have four-hundred thousand or eight-hundred thousand," he said and called an early position all in. He was up against {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} and hit a six on the flop. He stayed ahead and won the hand to end the day. He still missed catching Commisso by almost 130,000.

The rest of the players in this flight all bagged before 500,000, which is still well over 100 big blinds when play resumes Day 2 at 2,000/4,000 blinds.

There are still two more live flights that will send about 70 more players through to Day 2. Players can also buy directly into Day 2, space permitting, for $1,100. They will start Day 2 with 200,000, which works out to 50 big blinds.

Danick Landriault Bubbles, Final 39 Moving On

With hand-for-hand play underway, there were back-to-back tables with all-ins. As the crowd gathered around, Danick Landriault, the player at risk, tabled {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}. His opponent, Bharat Shetty, turned over {q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}.

Landriault was looking good for the double up, but right in the door was a six, as the flop came {6-Clubs}{3-Spades}{8-Clubs}. Landriault still had outs but was unable to improve through the turn and river — {j-Spades}{3-Clubs}, and he was the last person to bust from Day 1i.
