Keating Pays Off Govorov

Level 5 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Ivan Govorov raised to 16,000 from under the gun and was called by Bryce Yockey from the cutoff. "Cheap," said a recently sat Alan Keating, who defended his big blind.

He bet 8,000 blind before the 432 flop came into play. Govorov raised to 20,000, folding out Yockey. Keating stuck around.

The 9 turn checked through to the 4 river, where Keating check-called for 10,000.

He mucked his hand after his opponent tabled QQ.

Pot for Barber; Hutchison Jams on Pardo

Level 5 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Kenneth Barber limped in from early position and called when Davide Suriano made it 30,000 from the small blind. Suriano check-folded to a bet of 25,000 on the AQ9 flop.

On another table, a pot had swelled to around 240,000 between Dean Hutchison and Juan Pardo. With the board reading K7254, Pardo bet 106,000 and snap-folded when Hutchison jammed for 155,000.

Lees Has Top Set Cracked by Runner-Runner Straight

Level 5 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Johan Lees opened from early position and Noah Schwartz called in the hijack before Tomas Jozonis three-bet to 70,000 in the big blind. Both opponents called.

Jozonis continued for 115,000 on the flop of 2J6 and both opponents called. Jozonis then checked on the 5 turn and Lees moved all in for 312,000. Schwartz used a time bank before calling with slightly less and Jozonis got out of the way.

Noah Schwartz: 98 All in
Johan Lees: JJ

Lees had top set against nine-high but had to fade his opponent's flush and backdoor straight outs. He couldn't do so as the dealer put down the 7 river to give Schwartz a straight to put a tough beat on Lees.

Martinelli Had a Good Childhood

Level 5 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Alexandre Amiel was all in from under the gun for around 300,000 against Luke Martinelli in the cutoff.

Alexandre Amiel: 1010 All in
Luke Martinelli: AA

Amiel was in bad shape but got some hope from the J56 flop before the board finished out JJ to mark his elimination, as Martinelli's aces held up.

"How did you fade all that?" asked Phil Laak. "You must've had a good childhood. Done your chores. Done your homework. Gone to bed on time. And now you fade a heart."

Tregoubov Rivers Romanello; Maslak Runs into Kings

Level 5 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Igor Tregoubov opened to 16,000 from the cutoff and Roberto Romanello defended his big blind.

Romanello check-called for 20,000 on the 532 flop before the Q turn checked through to the 10 river. Romanello fired out 14,000 and was quickly called. Romanello, a member of poker's Triple Crown club, turned over 65 for a pair of fives. It was no good against Tregoubov's 109, which rivered a pair of tens to take the pot.

On another table, Konstantin Maslak was all-in and at risk to Fernando Gutierrez Alfonso for just over 400,000. The action was caught with the cards on their backs, and Maslak was in rough shape.

Fernando Gutierrez Alfonso: KK

Maslak's ace failed to appear on the 97836 runout, and he was eliminated.

GTO Wizard: How to Steal on the Bubble With a Short Stack

Level 4 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
GTO Wizard
GTO Wizard

If you're short-stacked on the bubble of a tournament, raising into bigger stacks might seem like a huge risk.

After all, you’re risking your tournament life at a point where folding guarantees you inch closer to a payday. But according to poker pro and strategy author Andrew Brokos, that fear doesn’t mean you should stop stealing altogether.

In a GTO Wizard article, Brokos explores one of tournament poker’s trickiest spots: stealing from the button as a short stack near the money bubble, when opponents in the blinds have you covered.
