"Lady Maverick" Doubles Through Tran

Tran reacts to an unlucky river card
Tran reacts to an unlucky river card
Vanessa Rousso called a 4,500 preflop raise made by Theo Tran to see a flop of {Q-Spades}{8-Spades}{2-Clubs}. Tran passed the first action to Rousso, who opened with an 8,000 bet. Tran then moved all in, putting Rousso to a decision for all of her chips. Vanessa called rather quickly and tabled {9-Spades}{7-Spades} for a flush draw; Tran produced {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} for top pair, top kicker.

Tran maintained the lead through the turn, {5-Clubs}, but the {4-Spades} on the river gave the hand and the pot to Rousso, who doubled through to approximately 85,000 in chips. Tran was left with just 25,000 and an incredibly damaged spirit - visibly and audibly angered by the result of the hand.

Two Flopped Sets Result in a Split Pot

Facing a 3,900 raise from the under-the-gun player, Mark Bonsack moved all in for his last 30,000. Ryan Young promply reraised all in for 35,000 and the original raiser got out of the way. Bonsack flipped up {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs} and asked, "I got coolered didn't I?"

"Yeah," Young replied, showing {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}.

The flop brought {a-Spades}{q-Spades}{k-Spades}, giving both players a set, but the turn and river filled out {7-Spades}, {9-Spades}, putting a flush on the board and forcing Young to share half the pot.

Ryan Young Doubles Up

With one limper before him, Ryan Young shoved his last 17,000 into the middle from the small blind. The limper called, tabling {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}, and Young turned over {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}.

The board filled out {4-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{2-Clubs}, giving Young top pair and a much-needed double up to 37,000 in chips.

The Buss Stops Here

Jerry Buss moves all in
Jerry Buss moves all in
Lakers owner Jerry Buss has just been sent to the rail by Michael Pickett after his pocket aces were cracked by Pickett's {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}.

The {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} flop gave Pickett a flush draw and the {9-Hearts} on the turn gave him three more outs for a straight. The last card off the deck was a fateful {9-Diamonds}, which completed Pickett's flush and sent Buss to the rail, leaving us with just 43 players in the tournament.
