Watkinson Back to Work

Lee Watkinson Stacking Chips
Lee Watkinson Stacking Chips
Lee Watkinson picked up right where he left off before the break, eliminating an opponent just minutes after play recommenced. Watkinson called the unknown player's all-in bet, holding A-6, and found himself up against {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades}.

The board filled out {9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{A-Spades}, giving Watkinson two pair and the checkmark for the hand. Lee now has well over 100,000 in chips and has been near the top of the leaderboard for most of the day.

60-Minute Dinner Break

We've reached the halfway point here on Day 1 and approximately 81 players remain, putting the average chip stack at 36,543.

We'll be back at approximately 7:30 p.m. local time for the conclusion of today's action.

Happy Birthday Vanessa

Vanessa Rousso doubled through Theo Tran just before the dinner break. On a {10-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {3-Clubs} flop, Rousso checked out of the small blind, an early-position player bet 5,000, Tran called the bet, and Rousso check-raised to 16,500. After the initial bettor folded, Tran put Rousso all in for her last 26,000 and after much contemplation, Rousso called, showing {a-Diamonds} {5-Spades}; Tran flipped up {7-Diamonds} {7-Hearts}. Tran was still ahead when the {j-Clubs} came on the turn, but the {a-Hearts} on the river wasn’t as kind to Theo.

“That’s so gross,” Tran said, as the dealer pushed the pot to Rousso.

“Hey, I’m just lucky . . . and it’s my birthday,” Rousso responded.

After the hand, Tran was left with approximately 30,000 in chips, while Rousso’s stack is up to 97,000.

Brandon Cantu Eliminated

Brandon Cantu
Brandon Cantu
On a board showing {K-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{7-Spades}, first action was passed to Brandon Cantu who shoved the last of his chips across the betting line. His opponent tanked a bit before making the call, tabling {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for an up-and-down straight draw as well as a flush draw. Cantu revealed pocket kings for the mortal nuts.

A fateful {3-Hearts} fell on the turn, shifting the lead to Cantu's opponent and a meaningless {6-Clubs} on the river sealed the deal, sending Cantu to the rail.

12 or 27...

Levels or players, that is. Play will end for the evening after either 12 levels of play or when we are down to 27 players.

Gavin Gutted

Gavin Smith
Gavin Smith
Gavin Smith just lost about half his stack after folding pocket queens face up on a {k-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} {9-Spades} flop, though it could've been much worse; his opponent showed pocket aces.

Smith is down to 16,700 in chips after the hand.
