Gavin Gives Back

Gavin Smith and two opponents call a 3,100 preflop raise from a player in early position. The flop comes {3-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{j-Clubs} and Gavin is the only one to call the original raiser's bet of 10,200.

The turn brings the {9-Hearts}, and both players opt to knuckle the felt and see a free river card. The last card off the deck is the {7-Clubs} and Gavin check-calls a 21,600 bet from his opponent. Gavin's opponent shows the {k-Clubs}{j-Hearts} for top two pair, prompting Gavin to muck, leaving himself with approximately 100,000 in chips.

A Gift for Gavin

Two players and the small blind limp to Gavin Smith's big blind, but Gavin pops it to 6,400. One of the limpers calls and the flop is {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}. Smith bets out 8,300 and is min-raised to 16,600. He then reraises an additional 20,000 and gets a call.

After the {j-Hearts} falls on the turn, Gavin shoves in his last 19,500. He's called and quickly shows {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} for top set. His opponent shows {a-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and is drawing dead. The river is a meaningless {7-Spades}.

Gavin doubles up to approximately 130,000 with the win.

Karma Chameleon

Bill Edler
Bill Edler
Some of you might remember a critical hand that took place during last month's PokerStars Carribean Adventure in the Bahamas between Bill Edler and Victor Ramdin. Edler got all of his money in holding pocket kings against a pot-committed Ramdin, who tabled 4-5 offsuit. The 6-7-8 flop delivered a miracle straight for Ramdin, ending Edler's island visit much earlier than he'd hoped.

Fast-forward to today. Facing a 3,700 raise from an opponent seated in the cutoff, Edler re-popped it another 6,000 from the small blind, leaving himself approximately 10,000 behind. "I'm all in," announced his opponent. Pot-committed, Edler exclaimed that he hoped he was up against A-K before reluctantly making the call.

"Nice hand," Edler said, as his opponent tabled pocket kings. Bill could only produce {8-Hearts}{9-Spades}, though as it turned out, that was all he'd need to run down his opponent's monster hand, as the board filled out {8-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{8-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}.

After the hand, Bill stacked up just over 40,000 in new chips.

Buss Speeding Up

Los Angeles Lakers Owner Jerry Buss
Los Angeles Lakers Owner Jerry Buss
Jerry Buss just doubled up to 22,000 when he got it all in, holding {10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} on a {9-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} board against his opponent's {A-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}. The river brought a meaningless {9-Clubs} and the Buss keeps rolling on.
