Ponakovs Jams on Matakis

Level 8 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Brek Schutten opened to 15,000 from the cutoff before Aleksejs Ponakovs three-bet to 48,000 from the small blind. WSOP Player of the Year Ian Matakis was in the big blind and reraised to 84,000. Schutten got out of the way and then Ponakovs called.

Ponakovs check-jammed for around 190,000 over a bet of 20,000 on the 863 flop. Matakis wasted little time in folding.

Jozoff Drops One to Plausinaitis; Still Flying High

Level 8 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Michael Jozoff has had a much better time on his second bullet, turning the 150,000 starting stack into 1,200,000 by the final level of Day 1.

He was in the mix again, opening to 12,000 from the cutoff. The button folded before Paulius Plausinaitis three-bet to 48,000 from the small blind. The big blind got out of the way and Jozoff called.

Plausinaitis made a continuation bet on the J62 flop and Jozoff quickly open-folded his A8. Plausinaitis flashed an A and took in the pot.

Schutten Shoves Over Cohen's Bet

Level 8 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Johan Schultz-Pedersen opened under the gun to 15,000. Jonathan Cohen called him from the button and Brek Schutten defended out of the big blind.

Schutten and Schultz-Pedersen checked the 985 flop to Cohen, who bet 21,000. Only Schutten called.

The turn J saw Schutten check again. Cohen continued the aggression and put out a bet of 35,000 with about 95,000 chips behind. Schutten then check-raised all-in for Cohen's remaining chips. After doing a little inventory, Cohen tossed his hand into the muck

Hunichen Puts Lin to the Test in 25K Fantasy Battle

Level 8 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Chris Hunichen
Chris Hunichen

Ren Lin opened to 13,000 from under the gun and called when Chris Hunichen made it 44,000 from the big blind. Lin called.

Hunichen continued for 27,000 on the A83 flop and was called. Hunichen then check-called for 65,000 on the K turn.

The J river completed the board, and Hunichen jammed as the bigger stack. Lin, with 140,000 behind, fell unusually quiet, mulling over his options. He decided to lay his hand down and award Hunichen the pot.

"Professional bluff," commented Lin as he tried to implore Hunichen to show his hand. The latter denied his request as he added the chips to his stack.

Kincaid Can't Believe Jozoff's Fold

Level 8 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
John Kincaid
John Kincaid

On the last hand of the night on Table 125, Michael Jozoff raised to 12,000 from under the gun before Paulius Plausinaitis three-bet to 36,000 from the cutoff. John Kincaid was on the button, and used two time banks before ripping in his stack of 222,000. The blinds got out of the way to put the action on Jozoff. He stared intently at the tournament board, and laid his hand down. Plausinaitis did the same.

Jozoff then began talking to Kincaid, saying he'd show his hand if Kincaid did. They ended up coming to an agreement and Kincaid tabled his JJ first. Kincaid was then stunned as Jozoff flashed AK.

"You FOLDED ace-king?" said Kincaid as the players began to bag.
