2024 World Series of Poker
Life Outside Poker is a new podcast for PokerNews hosted by Connor Richards that seeks to pull back the curtain on poker players and allow viewers and listeners to get to know them on a personal level.
In the 11th episode, Connor speaks with Dan "Jungleman" Cates about accountability in poker, his notorious heads-up challenge with Tom Dwan, Game of Gold, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, mindfulness in poker and his new podcast Winning the Game of Life.
Cates also talked about his iconic Poker Players Championship outfits and a six-figure downswing he experienced at Bellagio during the summer.
This interview was filmed at the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) inside Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.
A short stack moved all-in for the last 16,000 and Michael Hanelin reshoved to force out everyone else.
The player at risk tabled the A♠J♦ and was up against Hanelin with the A♣Q♥. On a board of 10♥4♠2♠6♦7♦, the kicker played and Hanelin claimed the pot.
Action was picked up on the flop with a board showing 10♥8♣2♦ with about 11,000 in the pot.
After the flop a player in early position checked to Faraz Jaka on the button, who also checked to see a turn.
Once the K♦ on the turn hit, Jaka's opponent bet 3,000, and Jaka made the call to see a river,
The K♥ on the river completed the board, and the player in early position checked to Jaka, who over the bet the pot, firing out 20,000. After spending over a minute debating his decision, the player in early position mucked his hand and gave the pot to Jaka.
From the small blind, Carol Harmon had called a raise preflop from Naoya Kihara.
Harmon led out for 10,000 on the 2♦J♦7♣ flop and Kihara thought it over briefly before showing A♣Q♣ as he folded.
The dream is over for this year
