River Bluff Goes Wrong for Martin

Miltiadis Kyriakides started the hand with a limp from the cutoff. Kevin Martin opted to raise to 11,000 on the button. Loren Weiss responded with a three-bet to 37,500 from the small blind. Kyriakides folded, and Martin called to create a heads-up pot.

Weiss took the betting lead on the Q♠7♦3♠ flop with a wager of 20,000. Martin remained in the hand with a call.

The 3♥ turn resulted in a check from Weiss, but Martin wanted to put more chips in the pot as he chose to bet 35,000 on fourth street. Weiss called.

Weiss checked again on the 3♣ river. Martin blasted off with an all-in for 110,500. Weiss went into the tank as he mulled over a big decision.

Weiss wasn't thrilled, but he put in the call to go to a showdown. He was relieved when Martin showed A♦J♠ for ace high.

Weiss tabled his A♠Q♣ for queens-up to claim the pot and eliminate Martin from the tournament.

Matt Affleck got the action started with an open to 5,500 from early position. Kou Vang and Billy Tarango both made the call out of the small and big blinds, respectively.

Vang checked the 7♦9♥8♦ flop, which led to a bet of 5,000 from Tarango. Affleck put in the call, but Vang sprang into action with a check-raise to 17,000.

Tarango got out of the fray with a fold, but Affleck was still interested as he made the call.

The J♥ turn resulted in a jam by Vang for 73,000 total. Affleck gave it some thought before he put in the call to put himself at risk for 67,500.

Kou Vang: J♣10♣

Affleck was behind and needed to rally on the river in order to stay in the tournament as Vang flopped the straight.

The river was a cruel one for Vang as it came the 9♦ to pair the board and improve Affleck to a full house as Vang's stack came crumbling down to the studs.

Short-stacked Chung-Lin Huang moved all in from middle position for 16,400. Masayuki Murata sat in the next seat, thought for a while, and made the call. Kimberly Manley sat in the hijack, then put in a three-bet to 62,500. Action came back around to Murata, who flat-called.

The action went check, check, on the 5♣3♣K♠ flop for the players to see the 6♦ peel off on the turn. Murata led out for 31,000, and Manley made the call.

On the Q♠ river, Murata moved all in and had Manley covered, who quickly folded her hand, showing J♠J♦, which was the correct fold as Murata tabled K♥K♣, and had both Manley and Huang with Ax10x crushed, sending Huang to the rail.

The board ran out 9♠6♥4♣8♠J♦ and Simao's queens held up to eliminate the WSOP bracelet winner from the tournament.

Vazquez told Simao as he raked in the pot that he tossed away pocket jacks.
