Brian Smith opened to 9,000 from under the gun. Florian Guimond in middle position called but Siebe den Hartog in the cutoff squeezed to 38,000. Smith moved all-in for 129,000, Guimond folded and Den Hartog snap-called.

Smith ran into aces. He paired his jack on 4♦9♥7♥J♥3♣ but it wasn't enough and he was eliminated.
In a pot of 80,000, Julian Penza checked the 3♠2♣9♠7♥ turn in middle position to Antwan Lawson on the button. Lawson bet 35,000, and Penza called.
Another check from Penza followed on the A♦ river. Lawson then quickly overbet-shoved, putting his opponent all in for 185,000. Penza pondered his decision for a while, but eventually decided to fold to preserve his remaining chips.
Abdul Samad opened to no less than 20,000 second-to-act before Antonios Poullikkas jammed for 104,000 from the hijack. It folded back to Samad who went into a small tank.
"Please don't show me kings," Samad pleaded as he put in the call, only slightly covering his opponent.

Samad was in fact not shown kings, but Poullikkas did one better with two aces.
However, Poullikkas's lead was short-lived as the Q♥Q♣6♠ flop gave Samad quad queens.
It was all over on the 9♠ turn to the 7♣ river as Samad made sure that the entire Paris Yellow section knew about it. After shouting indecipherable phrases for about 15 seconds, Samad sat down and stacked his chips with a smile, while a crushed Poullikkas left his seat.
Jonathan Metz opened to 8,000 from the hijack before Scott Manzi three-bet all in for 49,000 from the small blind.
Abhijith Cheruku isolated with a four-bet jam for 103,000, which led to a fold from Metz as Manzi was at risk as they went to a showdown.

Manzi was in the undesirable position of having run into aces and was left hoping for diamonds as they went to a flop.
The flop came 2♠6♥4♥ to keep Cheruku well out in front.
Manzi gained some hope of survival on the 3♣ turn as a five would lead to a chop.
Despite his pleas for a five, the 4♣ river peeled to eliminate Manzi from contention.
It folded to Phil Hellmuth in the small blind who limped. Chi Chen raised to 10,000 in the big blind, and Hellmuth called.
On the A♠5♦2♠ flop, Hellmuth checked to Chen who bet 8,000. Hellmuth then announced all in for his remaining 67,000, and Chen immediately called.

Hellmuth held a spade flush draw against the top pair of Chen. The camera crews hovered over the table as the 3♣ turn offered no additional outs for Hellmuth, except for a four to chop.
However, the river was the 8♥, and the 17-time bracelet winner was eliminated from the Main Event. He wished his opponents farewell and exited the tournament area in silence as his quest for number 18 will have to wait another day.
Eduardo Ugarte peeled his cards under the gun before announcing, "all in," for his remaining 81,000. Action folded to David Peters in the cutoff, who thought for some time before doing the same, with 141,000 in his stack. The rest of the table folded, and Peters found himself up against it.

The one thing Ugarte didn't want to see was a lady, but the window card was exactly that, bringing a reaction from the table. As if that wasn't horrifying enough for him, the full Q♠9♣Q♦ flop gave Peters quads, effectively crushing Ugarte's Main Event dreams.
The turn 3♦ sealed the deal, as a player at the table called, "Queen!" which was the only way in which Ugarte could stay alive. Unfortunately for the Spaniard, not only was the deck in working order, it was also a needler, as the A♠ was placed down, garnering further reactions from the table.
The runout saw Ugarte head home with nothing but a brutal bad beat story.
Dietrich Fast checked from the big blind on the 10♠K♦5♦ flop and Duane Blanchard fired 9,000 from under the gun. Fast called.
Fast check-called another bet from Blanchard on the K♣ turn, this time for 20,000.
The 3♦ completed the board, and Fast led out for a tiny 8,000. Blanchard peered over at Fast's remaining stack, which totaled around 35,000, before slowly raising to 21,000. Fast made the call.
Blanchard tabled A♠K♥ for trip kings with an ace kicker to take down the pot, while Fast showed the K♠ for trips himself, leaving him very short-stacked.
A few hands later, Fast was seen leaving the Paris Ballroom as he had been eliminated.
A large pot had built already when Christopher Pansini was awaiting his fate and Will Woodward then isolated successfully to force out the third player in the hand. Pansini showed 2♦2♥ for bottom set on the K♣J♣2♠8♣7♥ board but it was no good, as Woodward had flopped the higher set with J♠J♦ to claim the last 63,000 of Pansini.
