Online Poker Legend 'Isildur' Mucks Winning Hand at Showdown in WSOP Event

Viktor "Isildur1" Blom had a costly "oops" moment on Tuesday during a $10k event livestream at the 2026 World Series of Poker (WSOP).

The online poker legend, on Day 2 in Event #11: $10,000 GGMillion$ High Roller No-Limit Hold'em, didn't have much — just ace-high — when he made a river bet against Rick Mechammil.

Even though Mechammil called the bet, Blom's unpaired hand was best. But Sweden's number 1 player still didn't end up winning the pot...

How Did This Happen?

The hand, clipped by Rob Kuhn on X, played out in a fairly standard way until the river hero call. Mechammil raised preflop with K9x and Blom called with A8 to see a flop of 7Q6, which didn't hit either player in any significant way.

Mechammil check-called a bet with a backdoor flush draw. The 8 turn didn't improve either hand. Both players checked before the uneventful 3 hit on the river.

Neither player had anything but high-card, and Mechammil checked the river. Blom made a little over a half-pot-sized bet, bluffing with the best hand, which received a call from the weaker hand. But immediately after the call was made, before his opponent showed his cards, Blom sent his cards into the muck.

Mechammil would end up bagging the 16th biggest stack out of 64 remaining players on Day 2, while Blom, who was left with about four times the size of his river bet following the costly mistake, busted and failed to cash in the 627-entrant tournament.

It was a major error, but it certainly wasn't the biggest blunder at showdown in poker history. That title goes to convicted felon Tom Goldstein, a mystery player at the time playing under the name "Thomas," who folded a winning straight at showdown in a $540,000 cash game pot on Hustler Casino Live in 2024.
