Just Another Manic Munday

David Munday raised to 2,100 from middleposition before the cut-off reraised to 5,100. Manny Stavropoulos flat-called this 3-bet and so did Munday.

The flop came {J-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} {3-Hearts}, Stavropoulos checked, Munday bet 11,000, the button pushed for 35,000 and Stavropoulos tanked for ages before calling and Munday called the rest of his stack all-in.

Munday: {J-?} {J-?}
Button: {10-?} {10-?}
Stavropoulos: {K-?} {K-?}

The turn was the {A-Diamonds} and the river was the {6-Diamonds}.

An ecstatic Munday trebled up to 55,000 while Stavropoulos dropped to 25,000.

Why Limping Loses

The sandbagging strategy just seems to create too many complicated post-flop situations.

Recently a player in early position probably regretted limping his {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} into Rody Kaka with {q-Hearts}{5-Hearts} in the big blind.

The flop came {2-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and Kaka fired out 2,000. The opponent just flat called. Kaka loved the {Q-Clubs} turn and fired out 6,000. He loved it even more when the opponent decided to move all in.

Of course Kaka snap called and the river blanked the {4-Diamonds}.

"If he bets preflop or on the flop, I'm out of there," said Kaka as he dragged the near 45,000 chip pot.

Chips Go Directly To Gao

Harry Kaczka raised to 1,800, the button called and Jie Gao also called from the big blind.

The flop came {J-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {7-Clubs} and Kaczka bet 2,100 after Gao checked. The button raised to 5,100 and Gao called this, while Kaczka folded.

Both players checked the {3-Diamonds} turn before Gao fired out 10,000 on the {K-Diamonds} river to which the button immediately folded.

Edmonds Emerges!

Brendan Edmonds managed to take down a massive pot and is now on top of the counts with 90,000 in chips after a massive hand that unfolded on Peter Aristidou's table.

Michael Spilkin raised before the flop to 3,500 before Edmonds reraised to 9,800. The player on the button reraised all in for around 28,000, Spilkin folded and Edmonds snap-called.

Edmonds: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Button: {2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}

The board ran out {10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{10-Clubs}; Aristidou reached out for the board and cried, "I would have hit a straight!"

The staff told him off for touching the cards, but it was merely a distraction from the player on the button heading to the rail while Edmonds raked in his newly found chips.

Benson Belted

The PokerNews team noticed Gary Benson's seat was empty and after we asked around Tony Kanaan came forward and claimed responsibility, sharing with us his recount of Benson's demise.

Kaanan eliminated the Australian Poker Hall of Famer in the space of two hands - the first saw David Gorr raise from early position to 1,200, only to see Benson and two other players call before Kanaan raised all in for 9,000.

Gorr and the other two players got out of the way as Benson called, tabling pocket eights against Kanaan's {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}.

However the board was spread {Q-?}{4-?}{5-?}{4-?}{7-?} to leave Benson with just 1,800 in chips, which he moved in a short time later with {q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} but Kanaan called him down with {K-?}{J-?}.

The board of {K-?}{4-?}{q-?}{3-?}{4-?} sealed the deal for Kanaan and Benson went busto.

Taking The Michael

Greco is probably going bananas right now...
Greco is probably going bananas right now...
Michael Greco has been eliminated, he flat-called a reraise preflop with {K-Clubs} {K-?} and then got it in on a raggyish three club flop only to find he had run into {A-Clubs} {A-?}.

Who Needs Skillz

Who needs poker skill when you qualify into the Main Event via the SuperShot satellite system here at Crown.

The "future of poker" as one tournament director sarcastically labelled them, the SuperShot satellites cost just $120 to get into and take just less than half an hour to qualify someone for an Aussie Millions qualifier seat.

The only fly in the ointment is that players can only raise or fold until they are all in. This makes for some rather interesting situations like {J-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} v {k-Spades}{Q-Spades} v {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} with the diamonds making a flush and grabbing the double elimination.

Rest assured some of the most skilled poker players in the Aussie Millions Main Event will have got there via the popular SuperShot satellites.

There are plenty of SuperShots going now if you're near the Crown Poker Room.

Rodrigues Survives

Manny Rodrigues just managed to double through an opponent after getting the last of his money into the middle on a flop of {K-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{6-Spades} holding {k-Spades}{10-Spades}, ahead of the opponent's {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}.

The turn and river ran out {8-Diamonds},{j-Diamonds} and Rodrigues is now on 22,000 in chips.

The End is Ny-berg?

Nyberg: not giving up without a fight
Nyberg: not giving up without a fight
Dean "dinjho" Nyberg was almost felted but has since managed to get back up to almost 10,000 in the space of three hands.

In the first hand the action folded around preflop to Nyberg who raised to 2,000 from middle position. Matt Rolfe reraised to 6,500 from the hijack and the others got out of the way before Nyberg moved all in. Rolfe snap-called.

Rolfe: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Nyberg: {a-?}{k-?}

The board ran out {3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} to leave Nyberg with just 1,200 in chips.

However he managed to double up through Peter Aristidou the very next hand, shoving all in blind with {9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} and managed to hit a pair of sevens on the river against Aristidou's {a-Hearts}{5-?}.

Nyberg then pushed again, this time with {7-Spades}{3-Hearts} against another opponent's {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts} but the poker gods were on his side again after he caught running two pair on a board of {8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}.
