I'd Double Down on That Hand, Sir

Lindgren (during High Rollers Challenge): chippin' up early
Lindgren (during High Rollers Challenge): chippin' up early
An opponent in early position on table 10 raised to 250 before the flop, only to see Andrew Brown call from the cutoff and Erick Lindgren call from the button.

The action then moved around to Tino Lechich in the big blind who made it 1,250 to go. The other three players called to see a flop of {7-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}.

Lechich opened for 500, the early position player folded and Brown and Lindgren followed along before all three players checked the turn of the {8-Diamonds}.

Lechich and Brown checked to Lindgren on the river {9-Hearts}; Lindgren fired out 2,600, Lechich mucked and Brown went into the tank for almost three minutes before making the call.

Brown then mucked when Lindgren turned up {6-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for the flush. Lindgren raked in a sizeable pot and is on 39,500 in chips.

Lechich is down to 15,800 while Brown shrinks to 13,500 in chips.

Slow Going In The Early Levels

Although the AC/DC tribute band should have woken everybody up with their rendition of "It's a Long Way to the Top", we caught one unknown player yawning, and another unknown telling him, "Stop yawning, it's contagious!"

Nobody is falling asleep yet - that we have seen at least.

Ivey Gets Busy

With a raise to 300 from early position, Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan made the call to see a flop of {7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{7-Spades}. Play checked to Ivey who fired 600 into the middle. Dwan stepped aside as the preflop aggressor made the call.

The turn brought the {7-Clubs} and again Ivey's bet was called, this time for 1,600.

On the {6-Spades} river, Ivey's opponent decided to throw out 2,000 to attempt to take it down, but Ivey is one of the best players in the world for a reason, as he made the call with {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades} and it was good as his opponent flipped {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}.

The very next hand, Ivey gave a few chips back as he clashed with Tom Dwan. Ivey raised to 275 and Dwan called to see a {5-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop. Both checked and the {7-Hearts} hit the turn.

Dwan fired 450 and Ivey called to see the {8-Clubs} hit the river. Dwan tossed out 1,225 and Ivey looked him up but mucked when Dwan revealed {6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} for the rivered straight.

Dwan is back up to 19,000 with Ivey at 27,000.

A Few More Names

The field is certainly loaded with talent as we've also spotted the likes of Peter Aristidou, Mel Judah, Sam Korman, Raymond Rahme, Brendon Rubie, David Saab, Warwick Mirzikinian, Michael Guttman, [Removed:505], Chris Chronis, Julian Powell, Con Tsapkounis and Graeme Putt.

Sorel Mizzi In the House

Not only did we bump into Sorel Mizzi, who is playing today's Main Event but we also caught him in the middle of a hand. Headphones on, and a sweat band on his wrist (poker is a workout), Mizzi was contemplating calling an 850 river bet.

The board read {2-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and Mizzi, who was on the button finally decided to make the call after shuffling and cutting his chips first. Mizzi's opponent revealed the flush with the {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts} and Mizzi would be left a few chips lighter. The hand did not cause him to break a sweat though, and the sweat band, to our knowledge has not been put to use yet.

Mizzi sits at about 17,000.

Faces In the Crowd

Here are a few of the players we've spotted in the field thus far:

Jarred Graham, Dan Shak, Dan Neilson, Eric Assadourian, James Akenhead, J.P. Kelly, Emad Tahtouh, Amanda De Cesare, brothers Barny and Ross Boatman, Sam Khouiss, Sorel Mizzi, Perry Friedman and of course, Crown's international celebrity guest for the week, Desperate Housewives star Jesse Metcalfe.

Lights, Camera, Action (Dan)

Former WSOP Main Event Champ Dan Harrington has just doubled up to 40,000 in chips with the elimination of Australian pro Sam Youssef. A fan on the rail was kind enough to relay the action as he saw it, which was verified by one of the players at the table:

Youssef opened the pot with a raise to 700 from under-the-gun by mistake, accidentally throwing a purple (T500) chip into the middle with two black (T100) ones. Harrington made the call from the cutoff holding a pocket pair of queens and the flop came {Q-?}{10-Spades}{5-Spades}.

Youssef then checked the flop to "Action Dan" who fired a 1,000 bet. Youssef responded with a massive raise, kicking it up to 7,000. Harrington, sitting with the mortal nuts, moved all in over the top of Youssef's raise and Youssef made the call holding {A-Spades}{J-Spades}.

The turn and river then filled out {7-Clubs}, {5-Clubs} giving Harrington queens full to send Youssef to the rail.

Graham Gets One Early

It's been a good start for Aussie young gun Jarred "FlopNutsOnYou" Graham, taking down a pot on table 21 to move up to 22,300 in chips.

On a flop that read {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}, Graham checked to his opponent in the cutoff who fired out 1,200. Graham called, then both players checked the {q-Hearts} on the turn.

Graham checked again on the river {8-Spades}; the cutoff also checked and Graham rolled up {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for trips.

The cutoff player looked forlorn as he turned up {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}!

Sick Table

There's one table standing out as the star-studded table of the room and already we have some early action.

Phil Ivey raised to 250 from early position before Leo Boxell popped it up to 750. Ivey was the lone caller to see a flop of {A-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. Both players checked.

The turn was the {5-Spades} and again Ivey checked to Boxell who checked behind.

The river brought a repeat {6-Clubs} and once again both players checked it down.

Boxell showed {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} and was happy to get to showdown with his kings on the ace-board flop, but surprisingly Ivey revealed {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for a slow-played full house!

Boxell avoided the trap as Ivey collected an early pot on a table which also features big name pros Billy "The Croc" Argyros and Tom "durrrr" Dwan!

"Of all the tables in the room, how did we all get drawn on the same table!" laughed the Croc, "I hope we're the first to break!" The bad news for Croc is that this table should be together for most of the day. Expect fireworks!
