It was a slow start as only one player was registered at noon, when the tournament was supposed to kick off. Around 45 minutes later, it finally kicked off with ten players and then sprung into life.
Several big names entered, but failed to advance from Day 1a. Michael Mizrachi, the 2025 WSOP Main Event champion, was joined by poker legend and eleven-time bracelet winner Phil Ivey and seven-time bracelet winner and popular commentator Nick Schulman. All three are among the most respected and recognizable figures in the game, with decades of combined success on poker’s biggest stages. They will have another opportunity to progress when Day 1b gets underway tomorrow or in the Turbo flight later in the evening.
Artur Martirosian enjoyed a strong opening flight in the Main Event, finishing Day 1a with a healthy stack of 2,155,000, good for second in the counts. The Russian high-stakes regular is no stranger to deep runs in elite fields, boasting multiple major titles and a reputation as one of the most feared players on the circuit. His aggressive style and ability to apply pressure in key spots have made him a consistent contender in super high roller events around the world. With a top-three chip count heading into Day 2, Martirosian is well-positioned to challenge for a share of the prize pool and those all-important leaderboard points.
The survivors will return for Day 2 on August 14, where they’ll be joined by qualifiers from Day 1b, which gets underway at 12 p.m on Wednesday, August 13, with the same structure as Day 1a. There will also be a Turbo Day 1 at 8:30 p.m. featuring 20-minute levels, giving players one last shot to reach Day 2.

The floor have announced that three more hands will be played before the survivors bag up their chips.
Aram Oganyan opened the button to 70,000 and Artur Martirosian called in the big blind.
They saw a flop of 5♣4♠8♦, where Martirosian led out with a bet of 60,000 and Oganyan called to the 3♦ turn. Martirosian bet again, this time for 275,000, and not long after, Oganyan shoved around 1,000,000. Martirosian snap-called,
Aram Oganyan: 10♦6♦
Artur Martirosian: 6♠2♠
Martirosian had turned a straight, but did need to dodge diamonds as Oganyan had a flush draw. There were also some chop possibilities with a seven or a deuce, which would give both players the same straight.
It was one of those chop cards that came in as the 2♣ on the river gave both players a six-high straight, which saved Oganyan from elimination.

Nenad Dukic opened the button to 60,000 and Matthew Wantman called in the big blind.
The flop came 9♠4♥9♥ and after Wantman checked, Dukic fired out 50,000. Wantman called.
A 5♣ hit the turn and Wantman checked it over once again, and then was faced with another bet as Dukic put out 185,000. Wantman didn't need to think for too long before he folded.
Not so long ago, Dejan Kaladjurdjevic found himself on the rail.

Level 15 has just kicked off, which is the last level that will be played tonight.
Once the next 40 minutes have elapsed, the survivors will bag up their chips ready for Day 2, which takes places on Thursday, August 14.
Level: 15
Blinds: 15,000/30,000
Ante: 30,000
Leonard Maue opened the cutoff to 50,000 and Manuel Fritz defended his big blind.
They went to a flop of 8♦7♥A♦, where Fritz check-called a bet of 55,000 from Maue to see the 9♠ hit the turn. Again Fritz checked, then Maue bet out 150,000. After thinking it over, Fritz called.
When the 10♠ landed on the river, Fritz checked in flow once again, and Maue shoved. Fritz had 405,000 behind and instantly called.
Maue then showed a straight with J♣10♦, but that was no good as Fritz had rivered a bigger straight holding Q♦J♦ to scoop the pot.
