The G Has Arrived

His entrance didn't involve a bike, but Tony G has made it down to Cannes for the 2012 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event. He's in good spirits and ready for another deep run in this event. Last year, Tony G placed 24th for €37,000.

206?

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Right now, the tournament board reads that 206 players have entered on Day 1b. Day 1a had 215 entrants. With registration now closed when the dinner break ended, the final numbers should be in. Once that becomes available to us, we'll have it all posted for you.

Lichtenberger vs. Giesbrecht vs. Varlashin

Andrew Lichtenberger raised to 800 from middle position and was called by the player to his immediate left. The cutoff then three-bet to 2,250, Sean Giesbrecht called from the button, Vladislav Varlashin came along from the big blind, and Lichtenberger four-bet to 7,100.

The limper and cutoff both folded, but Giesbrecht and Varlashin paid to see the {K-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Spades} flop, which all three players checked. The {3-Spades} turn saw Giesbrecht fire out 9,000 only to have Varlashin raise to 20,000. Lichtenberger got out of the way and Giesbrecht quickly did the same.

No Second WSOPE Bracelet For Juanda

As you may remember, John Juanda won the WSOPE Main Event back in 2008. Unfortunately for the five time bracelet winner, a repeat victory will not be in the cards this year.

We caught up to find Juanda seeing a flop with Barbara Martinez and Eugene Katchalov. Katchalov fired 2,000 from the small blind and Martinez flat called. Juanda called as well and the turn came {9-Spades}.

Both players checked to Juanda and he bet 5,000. Katchalov got out of the way but Martinez decided to stick around.

The {3-Hearts} rivered and Martinez checked. Juanda shipped all in for just over 19,000 and Martinez went into the tank. The clock was called on her and eventually she announced a call.

"Bon Appétit," said Juanda as he flung his cards up, showing {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for a busted draw. Martinez showed {K-Spades}{10-Clubs} and her pair of tens eliminated Juanda from the tournament.

Danchev Doubles with Kings

From under the gun, Dimitar Danchev raised to 1,000. Curt Kohlberg reraised from middle position to 2,500, and then action fell on Marc-Andre Ladouceur in the hijack seat. Ladouceur reraised to 5,300, then play folded back to Danchev. He moved all in for 17,300, which forced a long tank-fold from Kohlberg. Ladouceur called.

Ladouceur: {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}
Danchev: {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}

The flop, turn and river ran out {9-Spades}{8-Spades}{4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} to give Danchev the double and knock Ladouceur under 10,000 in chips.

Hellmuth Makes His Traditional Late Entrance

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

"Phil, over here," the floor yelled to the 12-time WSOP bracelet winner. Phil Hellmuth was making his traditional late entrance to the tournament, and it was surprisingly subdued. He was seated at Table 10, which also plays host to David Vamplew, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier and Konstantin Puchkov.

Hellmuth quickly assessed his stack, which had been blinded down to 27,350.
