2025 WSOP Day 40: Shaun Deeb Is Three Spots Away From Eighth Bracelet

The $10,000 Main Event was once again the biggest game in town on Day 40 of the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.

Most of the floor was given over the glut of fish, sharks, and whales who swam onto the tournament floor with the dream of a bracelet twinkling in one eye and a mountain of cash piled up in the other.

However, three smaller events were also supposed to crown bracelet winners. Two of these events required an additional day to finish up, but the remaining bracelet event of the day went to Mike Gorodinsky.

Gorodinsky won his bracelet after Event #82: $10,000 Eight Game Mixed Championship returned for an unscheduled Day 4 to finish up the heads up portion of play.

Elsewhere, the Main Event's Day 1d played out, Shaun Deeb put himself three spots away from his eighth bracelet, and the $2,5000 NLH Freezeout played down to four.

Riva Arthur Is The Main Event Day 1d Chip Leader

The Main Event trundles on with the last of the four starting flights ending after five blind levels of action.

When Day 1d started, the Main Event was already at 3,697 entries. This put the prize pool for the event at $34,382,100.

Day 1d ended with an unofficial count of 3,778 survivors from a field of 4,997 entries. This puts the total field at 8,694 entries with 6,457 survivors still in the action. It also brings the prize pool up to $80,854,200.

These numbers are all set to increase as late registration continues into Day 2.

Day 1d saw some big names rise and fall, including Phil Ivey, who busted when his two pair was outdrawn on the turn by Joseph Cheong.

Some other notables who did manage to find a bag were Nick Pupillo (263,500), Greg Mueller (226,500), two-time 2025 WSOP bracelet winner Blaz Zerjav (156,800), Esther Taylor (140,000), PokerStars founder Isai Scheinberg (115,000), and Kathy Liebert (95,000).

Riva Arthur leads the Day 1d field with 401,200 in chips. She is followed by Hung-Wei Shiue (317,000) in second and Andrew King (302,400) in third.

At one point, the defending champion, Jonathan Tamayo (103,700), spoke to PokerNews about the likelihood of defending his title, before finding a bag at the end of the day.

Other former champions who survived Day 1d included Huck Seed (77,100), Joe McKeehen (64,600), and Ryan Riess (17,900).

Day 2abc gets started at 12 p.m. local time on July 6. It willl combine the survivors from Days 1a, 1b, and 1c.

The survivor's from yesterday's Day 1d flight will get their own Day 2d. Late registration continues into Day 2.

Event #81: $10,000 WSOP Main Event World Championship Day 1d Top Ten Chip Counts

Shaun Deeb Set To Top POY Rankings With Top Three Finish In Event #84

Shaun Deeb is poised to take a huge lead in the Player of the Year rankings as he leads the final three of Event #84: $1,000 No-Limit Holdem into an unscheduled Day 3.

If Deeb wins, this will be his eighth bracelet overall and second of this series. However, wherever he finishes now, Deeb will significantly extend his lead over Martin Kabrhel, who is currently in second on the POY leaderboard.

Deeb has a commanding chip lead in this event with a stack of 21,200,000 in chips.

Zdenek Zizka has about half that in second place with 12,500,000. And Jeffrey Thoney has less a third of Zizka's stack with 3,800,000 in third.

They are the last three players left from a field of 1,873 entries and will be taking what's left of a $1,648,240 prize pool.

This is a marked increase on the $1,253,120 from last year.

Event #84: $1,000 No-Limit Holdem Day 2 Final Three Chip Counts

Breno Drumond, Cary Katz Make Final Four In $2.5k Freezeout

Twenty-five players rejoined play at the start of the Day 2 of Event #83: $2,500 Freezeout No-Limit Hold'em. Only four remain.

These four players will be back today after the event received an extra unscheduled day of play.

Breno Drumond leads the final four with 18,500,000 in chips.

Preston McEwen is in second, with 12,700,000 while Cary Katz (8,500,000) and Jaehoon Baek (5,800,000) complete the table in third and fourth place.

Gary Hasson was the last elimination of the day, busting in fifth.

The day is scheduled to resume at 1 p.m., July 6. Play begins with blinds at 300,000/600,000 with a 600,000 big blind ante.

What to Expect on Day 41 of the 2025 WSOP

With the Main Event's starting flights out of the way, Day 41 of the 2025 World Series of Poker moves on to the first of two Day 2 flights.

Day 2abc combines the survivors from the first three flights of Event #81: $10,000 WSOP Main Event World Championship. A total of 3,697 entries players are expected to return to play at midday today.

Late registration remains open for the first two blind levels of Day 2, only closing at the start of level 8. So, latecomers can still find a seat well into both today and tomorrow's flight.

The only new event today is Event #85: $600 Ultra Stack No-Limit Hold’em. This lower buy in event contrasts nicely with the $10k of the Main and offers two starting flights of which today's is the first.

Play starts in the Ultra Stack at 10 a.m. However, later registration is open until the end of Level 12, which won't end until around 6:15 p.m.

There will also be a second starting flight tomorrow (Day 1b), giving players plenty of time to enter.

Two events are also returning for additional unscheduled days. These are the Event #84: $1,000 No-Limit Holdem — with Shaun Deeb leading the three remaining players — and Event #83: $2,500 Freezeout No-Limit Hold'em in which Breno Drumond leads the final four.
