After just under four hours of play, one of the biggest names in the online poker world, Wiktor "Iimitless" Malinowski has taken down SCOOP-13-H: $10,300 NLHE [8-Max] for $241,957 by defeating Simon "C. Darwin2" Mattsson heads-up in three hands.

Malinowski is well known as he can frequently be found on the high-stakes cash games tables and even put out a challenge to play anyone in the world heads-up. He even offered to stream things and play drunk by downing a bottle of wine with the camera on.

Even though he isn't afraid on those tables, he showed today that he's not scared of playing along with the others in the MTT fields. Today's he claimed his first SCOOP title in a tournament that was filled with some of the elite of the poker world and they also showed up for this final table.

Besides Mattsson, Christoph "26071985" Vogelsang, Pablo "pabritz" Brito, Timothy "Tim0thee" Adams, "psihodelik31", Ryan "Piggysnipz" Pignatelli, Pedro "pvigar" Garagnani, and Joni "bustoville" Jouhkimainen all took a seat at the start of the final table.

Action of the Day

Jouhkimainen came into the day with the second-shortest stack but was first to go when he ran his ace-jack into the ace-queen of "psihodelik31". They both turned two pair but "psihodelik31" managed to stay ahead with the higher kicker. Garagnani was the shortest stack but doubled through Pignatelli for the latter to bust in eighth place when his ace-king couldn't beat the pocket eights of Brito.

Mattsson held 42% of the chips in play at that point but his stack slowly dwindled as he first doubled up Malinowski and then Brito. Malinowski doubled up through Brito before winning a few more hands after that to slowly climb up to second place in the counts with Mattsson still holding a commanding chip lead.

Joni Jouhkimainen
Joni Jouhkimainen finished in ninth place for $31,822

Garagnani fell in seventh place when he three-bet jammed his pocket sevens into the queens of Malinowski. Adams then doubled through Mattsson but then Brito doubled through him. Malinowski won a pot against Brito for the chip lead. "psihodelik31" had been short for most of the night and doubled up once again through Malinowski before eventually giving all their chips to Vogelsang who rivered the two pair with the lower cards.

Adams was eliminated next when he called the four-bet shove of Brito with ace-jack Brito's pocket tens held throughout the board to get the tournament down to four players. Within the next forty minutes, Brito increased his chip lead before doubling Mattson back up to the lead when he got rivered by Mattsson's ace-seven when he held pocket fives. Fifteen minutes later, the Brazilian was sent to the rail when he three-bet jammed his king-five into the aces of Malinowski.

Christoph Vogelsang
Christoph Vogelsang finished in third place for $142,624

Three-handed, Vogelsang was the shortest stack with both Malinowski and Mattsson holding more than five times his stack but he doubled through Malinowski to get the stacks to almost even for all three of them. But twenty minutes later, the German was gone as he had 4 big blinds left and lost them all to Malinowski too.

All three hands of heads-up play went to Malinowski, in the final hand, Mattsson limp-shoved his 40 big blinds in with ace-jack and saw he was up against the ace-queen of Malinowski. They both turned top pair but no jack came on the river to signal the end of the Day 1 chip leader's run. Malinowski claims the first win for Poland in the 2021 PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker and will be looking for more during the remainder of this year's festival.
