Headline and text updated — Leo Margets has become the first woman to reach the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event final table in 30 years.

A 30-year drought came to an end late Sunday as Leo Margets became the first woman since Barbara Enright to reach the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event final table.

Enright, a Poker Hall of Famer, was the only woman to make the final nine in poker's most prestigious event, which she did in 1995 with a fifth-place finish for $114,180. She's no longer part of a one-woman club after the long-time Spanish pro finally achieved the same feat 30 years later.

Previously, Annie Duke (2000) and Gaelle Baumann (2012) came close, but each bubbled the final table. Kristen Foxen went on a memorable run last year before bowing out in 13th place and was among the first to congratulate Margets on her historic achievement.

With at least $1,000,000 guaranteed, Margets has already locked up the highest-ever cash prize for a woman in the Main Event.

Margets Makes History

Margets entered Day 8 sitting in 15th place out of 24 remaining players in what is the third-largest WSOP Main Event in history (9,735 entries). She'd hover around the 17.8 million chips she began the session with for quite some time. But she'd slowly build her stack up to around 35 big blinds with the blinds at 500,000/1,000,000.

The Spaniard would then finally find an opportunity to make a move, just after the dinner break. Margets raised to 2,000,000 from the hijack with JJ. Sergio Veloso, holding AK in the small blind, moved all in for 32,700,000, just under Margets' stack. The original raiser made the call, and both players turned over their cards to discover they were about to race for a ton of money.

The flop came out QA9, bad news for Margets, who entered the tournament with just over $2 million in live tournament cashes. But she did pick up some help on the 3 turn, giving her a flush draw to go along with her two set outs. Margets would spike the 2 to hit the flush on the river, which sent Veloso home in 16th place for $450,000.

Margets, on the other hand, was up to 71,000,000 chips after Level 37. Braxton Dunaway (101,900,000) was the only player with a larger stack. Michael Mizrachi and Kenny Hallaert, both seeking a second WSOP Main Event final table appearance, were still standing at the time of the original publishing.

Nearing the final table, Margets lost a hand with pocket aces against the eventual chip leader John Wasnock to drop slightly on the leaderboard.

After keeping her stack afloat with a couple of reraises, Margets finally made poker history with the elimination of Joey Padron in 10th place, ensuring her place at the final table.

She'll return to the final table with 53,400,000 in chips, or 33 big blinds in Level 39 with blinds at 800,000/1,600,000. With her stack, Margets sits right in the middle of the pack with the four bigger stacks to her left, and the four shorter ones seated to her right.

The final nine players will return to action on Tuesday for the first of two final table days. Margets is guaranteed at least $1,000,000 for her incredible achievement. The winner, to be crowned on Wednesday, will take home $10 million.
