New Events at the 2025 WSOP

The WSOP always brings fresh twists, and this year’s schedule introduces six brand-new bracelet events that are sure to shake things up.

From a unique Battle of the Ages and a $100,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller to a brand new mixed game format, here is a look at some of the new additions to the 2025 WSOP schedule:

Battle of the Ages: An Epic Generational Showdown

The $1,000 Battle of the Ages is one of the most intriguing new events adorning the 2025 WSOP schedule not least because it could settle an age-old, pardon the pun, argument: are the veterans or young guns the better poker players?

The 59th event of the series sees players aged 50 and over enter on Day 1A on the morning of June 22, with Day 1B, later in the day, reserved for the under-50 crowd. Surviving players merge on Day 2 to fight it out for the bracelet, top prize, and bragging rights for their generation.

It will be interesting to see which flight will enjoy the most runners, and show where the lifeblood of poker is. WSOP's seniors events draw in staggeringly large fields, but the younger generation heads to the WSOP each summer in droves.

PLO Features in a Trio of New Events

Daniel Perkusic
Daniel Perkusic won the $50,000 PLO event in 2024

Pot-Limit Omaha players have three brand new events to get their high variance-loving teeth into. Event 14 on June 2 is the $25,000 High Roller PLO/NLH Mixed 8-Handed event. Last year, a $600 buy-in edition of this event ran, but this is the first time this mixed event has received the high roller treatment.

A few days later, on June 6, Event #24: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Double Board Bomb Pot (8-Handed) kicks off. PLO featured in the equivalent event in 2024, but the inaugural double board bomb pot tournament also featured No-Limit Hold'em. That mixed event drew in 1,312 entrants, with China's Xixiang Luo defeating Daniel Hachem heads-up to capture the $270,820 top prize.

The third new PLO addition to the 2025 WSOP schedule will set a new record for the biggest buy-in PLO event in WSOP history. Event #79: $100,000 High Roller Pot-Limit Omaha stats on July 1, and will see some of the best players battle it out at the felt. $50,000 is the current all-time high buy-in paid for a PLO event at the WSOP. In 2024, 131 players ponied up $50,000, resulting in a $2,100,325 top prize. Daniel Perkusic claimed that princely sum after sending Danny Tang to the rail with the runner-up tag.

High-Octane, High-Stakes Action

Frank Funaro
Frank Funaro won the 2024 WSOP's $10,000 Super Turbo Bounty event

Fans of faster format should be delighted to learn that a $5,000 Super Turbo Bounty No-Limit Hold'em event explodes into action on July 8. This one-day event, the 87th on the schedule, features short blind levels and, likely, a huge field, as players attempt to save their series. The 2024 schedule featured $1,000, $1,500, and $10,000 buy-in versions of this event; the latter won by Frank Funaro, who outlasted 485 opponents en route to banking $612,997. The two more affordable options drew in vast crowds of 2,639 and 2,110, respectively.

New Mixed Game Enters the Arena

Phil Ivey
Two of Phil Ivey's 11 bracelets have fetured Limit Triple Draw

Mixed game aficionados will look forward to July 11 when Event #93: $3,000 T.O.R.S.E. kicks off for the first time. If you're scratching your head wondering what this acronym is, wonder no more because the traditional Hold'em is dropped from the rotation and 2-7 Limit Triple Draw replaces it. Which mixed game player do you think will take down the T.O.R.S.E.?

GGPoker and the World Series of Poker

GGPoker WSOP

Caesars Entertainment no longer owns the rights to the World Series of Poker. But the casino giant will continue to lease the Horseshoe and Paris properties to the new owners for at least the next 20 years.

The deal was agreed to just two weeks following the conclusion of the 2024 WSOP, and it was finalized in October. Rumors of the acquisition started spreading during last summer's series, and the rumors turned out to be true.

GGPoker is a leading online poker brand that has hosted numerous WSOP Online Bracelet Series and December's World Series of Poker Paradise (WSOPP) series in the Bahamas.

The first WSOP schedule under GG's ownership isn't much different from what poker players have come to love in recent years, One other similarity will be the return of PokerNews' unrivaled live reporting, breaking news, and feature content all summer long.

Breaking Down the Rake at the 2025 WSOP

Let’s talk about rake—the fee you pay to play in a tournament. At the 2025 WSOP, the rake varies depending on the buy-in, and as you might expect, smaller events take a bigger cut percentage-wise, while high rollers get a better deal.

Here’s what that looks like this summer:

Buy-InTake out (%)Prize Pool TakeTake out ($)
$30018%$246$54
$40017.5%$330$70
$50017%$415$85
$60016%$504$96
$77712.5%$680$97
$80012.5%$700$100
$1,00012.0%$880$120
$1,50011.5%$1,328$173
$2,00011%$1,780$220
$2,50011%$2,225$275
$3,00011%$2,670$330
$5,0008%$4,600$400
$10,0007%$9,300$700
$25,0006%$23,500$1,500
$50,0005%$48,750$1,250
$100,0003.5%$96,500$3,500
$250,0001.5%$246,250$3,750

So what does this mean for you? If you’re playing lower buy-ins, you’ll want to be mindful of how much rake eats into your bankroll over time. On the flip side, if you’re in the nosebleeds, the rake is almost an afterthought. Either way, understanding these numbers can help you make smarter decisions throughout the summer.
