Aces Bust Kings 15 Minutes into Day 1b of WSOP Main Event

It's always nice to look down at pocket kings. Well, unless you're up against pocket aces and it's early in the $10,000 buy-in World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event.

That's exactly what happened for Dennis Brand who was coolered by Marc Goone, a Twitch streamer and cash game player. The hand took place less than 15 minutes into Day 1 of poker's world championship event on Monday morning.

Elsewhere inside Bally's, on just the second hand of the day, Alex Romero rivered a royal flush with {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}. He didn't win a massive pot against the {a-Spades}{3-Diamonds} of Michael Monicatti on the {j-Spades}{k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} board, mostly because his opponent's hand wasn't strong enough to get carried away with. But it was still a nice way for Romero to start the day.

Cruel Way to Bust the Main Event

Goone and Brand went into a raising battle preflop and then saw a flop of {5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} with about 15,000 in the pot, according to the PokerNews live reporting update.

With {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades} in the hole, Brand was in especially bad shape given that he couldn't even rely on a backdoor flush to come through against the {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} of Goone.

The player with pocket kings moved all in from the cutoff and Goone, a heavy favorite to win, took a brief moment to ponder his decision before coming to the conclusion that pocket aces was good enough to risk his Main Event life. He was correct in that thought process and was ecstatic to see the hand he was up against once the cards were turned over.

The turn was a meaningless {8-Spades} followed by an equally uneventful {4-Diamonds} on the river. Goone shipped the pot and doubled up to 120,000, while Brand was one of the first players to bust on Day 1b of the 2022 WSOP Main Event.

Goone, a Twitch streamer who has appeared on Hustler Casino Live, has less in Hendon Mob results than it costs to enter the Main Event. But he's on the right track to adding a meaningful cash to his live tournament resume.
